Determination of relaxation and retardation spectrum by inverse functional filtering
2010
Abstract The article is devoted for the determination of the relaxation and retardation spectrum (RRS) from monotonic time- and frequency-domain material functions by the inverse functional filters executing discrete convolution algorithms for geometrically spaced data. It is shown that the problem of RRS determination from a wide variety of material functions leads to the three inverse filtering tasks on a logarithmic time or frequency scale with the three specific frequency responses concerning: (i) the time-domain functions, (ii) the real parts and (iii) the imaginary parts of the frequency-domain functions, and three algorithms (having the versions with even and odd number of coefficien…
Characterization of clamp-on current transformers under nonsinusoidal conditions
2009
This paper reports the performance of clamp-on current transformers under nonsinusoidal conditions. A set of experimental measurements helped to determine the ratio and the phase errors under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 45 to 1000 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using the fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with adjusted phase shift. It was found that ratio and phase errors are affected by the phase angle between the harmonic and the fundamental and the harmonic amplitude. The effects of conductor location in the current transformer's window and of the air-gap width were also investigated. It was concluded that harmonic phase and ratio errors measur…
DSP Implementation for Measuring the Loop Gain Frequency Response of Digitally Controlled Power Converters
2012
This paper presents a method for measuring the loop gain frequency response of digitally controlled power converters, without the need of any expensive measurement equipment such as frequency response analyzers (FRA). The method is based on the traditional perturbation and measurement scheme. The perturbation is internally synthesized by the DSP and applied as pulse-width modulation to the converter. The loop input and output data are sent to a PC via universal serial bus, which performs online the DFT of sent data. The perturbation amplitude is varied with frequency to improve signal-to-noise ratio of measurements. The number of cycles used to perform discrete Fourier transform calculation…
Frequency response of Measurement Current Transformers
2008
In this paper the frequency response of two CTs is experimentally evaluated in the range of 30-600 Hz. A theoretical analysis of CTs behavior has been developed by means of the equivalent circuit. It was shown, by an experimental test, that, for the frequency range analyzed, the transformer equivalent circuit is a valid tool for the evaluation of CT performances.
Flexible optical implementation of fractional Fourier transform processors. Applications to correlation and filtering
1997
Abstract Recently, in the field of fractional Fourier transforms (FRT) an operation coined “fractional correlation” has been proposed and investigated experimentally. In this paper we propose a new setup for obtaining the fractional correlation, which presents several advantages from the experimental point of view. The fractional filter plane can be adjusted accurately with the help of converging beam illumination and using an adjusting device consisting of a combination of Fresnel zone plates. Moreover the scaling factor between the input pattern and the filter can be adjusted at will. This degree of freedom is of special interest when using SLMs. In addition we present a configuration, ba…
Advanced FEM modeling of friction stir welding of Ti6Al4V: Microstructural evolutions
2013
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state welding process patented in 1991 by TWI; initially adopted to weld aluminum alloys, is now being successfully used also for high resistant materials. Welding of titanium alloys by traditional fusion welding techniques presents several difficulties due to high material reactivity resulting in bonding with oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen with consequent embrittlement of the joint. In this way FSW represents a cost effective and high quality solution. The final mechanical properties of the joints are strictly connected to the microstructural evolutions, in terms of phase change, occurring during the process. In the paper a 3D FEM model of the FSW wel…
Comparing air quality indices aggregated by pollutant
2011
In this paper a new aggregate Air Quality Index (AQI) useful for describing the global air pollution situation for a given area is proposed. The index, unlike most of currently used AQIs, takes into account the combined effects of all the considered pollutants to human health. Its good performance, tested by means of a simulation plan, is confirmed by a comparison with two other indices proposed in the literature, one of which is based on the Relative Risk of daily mortality, considering an application to real data.

Cork Taint of Wines: Role of the Filamentous Fungi Isolated from Cork in the Formation of 2,4,6-Trichloroanisole by O Methylation of 2,4,6-Trichlorop…
2002
ABSTRACT Cork taint is a musty or moldy off-odor in wine mainly caused by 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA). We examined the role of 14 fungal strains isolated from cork samples in the production of 2,4,6-TCA by O methylation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP). The fungal strains isolated belong to the genera Penicillium (four isolates); Trichoderma (two isolates); and Acremonium , Chrysonilia , Cladosporium , Fusarium , Mortierella , Mucor , Paecilomyces , and Verticillium (one isolate each). Eleven of these strains could produce 2,4,6-TCA when they were grown directly on cork in the presence of 2,4,6-TCP. The highest levels of bioconversion were carried out by the Trichoderma and Fusar…
Ciclohexadespipeptide beauvericin degradation by different strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
2013
Abstract The interaction between the mycotoxin beauvericin (BEA) and 9 yeast strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae named LO9, YE-2, YE5, YE-6, YE-4, A34, A17, A42 and A08 was studied. The biological degradations were carried out under aerobic conditions in the liquid medium of Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) at 25 °C for 48 h and in a food/feed system composed of corn flour at 37 °C for 3 days, respectively. BEA present in fermented medium and corn flour was determined using liquid chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometry detector in tandem (LC–MS/MS) and the BEA degradation products produced during the fermentations were determined using the technique of the liquid chromatography coupled …
