Relations between multi-resolution analysis and quantum mechanics

We discuss a procedure to construct multiresolution analyses (MRA) of L2 (R) starting from a given seed function h (s) which should satisfy some conditions. Our method, originally related to the quantum mechanical Hamiltonian of the fractional quantum Hall effect, is shown to be model independent. The role of a canonical map between certain canonically conjugate operators is discussed. This clarifies our previous procedure and makes much easier most of the original formulas, producing a convenient framework to produce examples of MRA. © 2005 American Institute of Physics.
Integrating analytical resolutions in non-targeted wine metabolomics

Direct injection Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS), and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) were combined for the non-targeted analysis of wine metabolites. The unrivalled resolution on mass measurement allowed by the former and the separation ability of isomeric and isobaric substances by the latter, clearly increases the scope of detectable unknown metabolites in wines. Such methodology is illustrated through the comparison of chemical spaces of a young and an older Pinot noir wine. A non-targeted, ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometric, direct analysis of oak-wood extracts from two species (Quercus robur L. and Quercus petraea Liebl.) from three French forests, and of a wine aged in barrels derived therefrom has been performed to identify families of metabolites that could discriminate both the species and the geographical origin of woods. Bio-inspired consolidants derived from crystalline nanocellulose for decayed wood

Abstract Novel bio-inspired materials derived from crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) have been tested as wood consolidants. A suspension of CNC, produced by acid hydrolysis of cellulose and used as such or mixed with lignin and/or siloxane derivatives (PDMS), was applied on rotted wood samples of Norway spruce. X-Ray diffraction analysis on CNC powder showed high crystallinity index. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurement indicated a nearly uniform particle size distribution with an average hydrodynamic diameter for pure CNC smaller than that in the mixtures. Zero-dimensional (0D) mixed-halide hybrid organic-inorganic MA4PbX6·2H2O (MA = CH3NH3+; X = Br1 - xIx with 0 < x < 1) has been synthesized by a solvent-free mechanochemical approach. It has been shown that this 0D phase with sharp absorption features in the near-UV is a hydrated structure, which can be reversibly transformed into the three-dimensional perovskite phase MAPbX3 by simple thermal annealing (dehydration) in air. This work reveals a new approach to hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites and related 0D structures, which have so far only been thoroughly studied for the inorganic Cs4PbX6 compounds. The method is based on sustaining a difference in the chemical potential for electron populations above and below an energy gap and let this difference drive a current through an electric circuit. In this work we extend the application of the ray matrix approach to analyse anamorphic fractional Fourier systems, i.e., fractional Fourier optical systems where the fractional power is different for two orthogonal directions. The application of the ray matrix approach allows for easily obtaining the properties of the optical system, and it is therefore a powerful tool to design and simplify complicated systems.
