Stochastic differential calculus for wind-exposed structures with autoregressive continuous (ARC) filters

2008

In this paper, an alternative method to represent Gaussian stationary processes describing wind velocity fluctuations is introduced. The technique may be considered the extension to a time continuous description of the well-known discrete-time autoregressive model to generate Gaussian processes. Digital simulation of Gaussian random processes with assigned auto-correlation function is provided by means of a stochastic differential equation with time delayed terms forced by Gaussian white noise. Solution of the differential equation is a specific sample of the target Gaussian wind process, and in this paper it describes a digitally obtained record of the wind turbolence. The representation o…

Cellulose‑copper as bio-supported recyclable catalyst for the clickable azide-alkyne [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction in water.

2018

Abstract Naturally-occurring cellulose has been employed as a bio-support macromolecule for the immobilization of either copper(I) or copper(II) ions in order to click azide and alkyne derivatives in water. Under such a click regime, 1,4-disubstitued-1,2,3-triazoles were obtained regioselectively in excellent yields at room temperature. The reaction work-up is simple and the bio-heterogeneous catalyst that has been fully characterized by AAS, SEM, EDX and FT-IR can be easily separated and reused at least five times without any significant decrease in its activity and selectivity, particularly in the case of the very stable CuI-Cellulose.

Generic Method for Modular Surface Modification of Cellulosic Materials in Aqueous Medium by Sequential Click-Reaction and Adsorption

2012

A generic approach for heterogeneous surface modification of cellulosic materials in aqueous medium, applicable for a wide range of functionalizations, is presented. In the first step, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) modified with azide or alkyne functionality, was adsorbed on a cellulosic substrate, thus, providing reactive sites for azide–alkyne cycloaddition click reactions. In the second step, functional units with complementary click units were reacted on the cellulose surface, coated by the click-modified CMC. Selected model functionalizations on diverse cellulosic substrates are shown to demonstrate the generality of the approach. The concept by sequentially combining the robust physic…

Fourier-transform infrared study of the switching process in a ferroelectric liquid crystalline polymer

1995

The implementation of the step-scan technique on our spectrometer enabled us to follow the electric field induced reorientation dynamics of different molecular segments of the ferroelectric liquid crystalline polymer [Si(Me)(R)O/Si(Me)(R')O/Si(Me) 2 O] n (R= (CH 2 ) 11 OPhCOOPhOCO * CHCl * CH(Me)(Et); R'= (CH 2 ) 11 OPhN=NPhO * CH(Me)(Hex)) on a sub-millisecond time scale. It was detected that not only the mesogen but also the spacer and at least part of the backbone take part in the reorientation process

An attempt to realise the constrained search approach in the density functional theory

2001

Abstract The problem of reconstruction of wave functions from a given electron density is considered. A reformulation of the problem is proposed which is based on the Fourier transform. Arising mathematical problems are studied, namely, the properties of reduced spatial densities and their Fourier images are obtained, which follow from known properties of the wave functions. The proposed approach may provide a practical implementation of the Constrained Search Approach to the DFT.

Hybrid kernel estimates of space-time earthquake occurrence rates using the Etas model

2010

The following steps are suggested for smoothing the occurrence patterns in a clustered space–time process, in particular the data from an earthquake catalogue. First, the original data is fitted by a temporal version of the ETAS model, and the occurrence times are transformed by using the cumulative form of the fitted ETAS model. Then the transformed data (transformed times and original locations) is smoothed by a space–time kernel with bandwidth obtained by optimizing a naive likelihood cross-validation. Finally, the estimated intensity for the original data is obtained by back-transforming the estimated intensity for the transformed data. This technique is used to estimate the intensity f…

The role of the $\Delta(1232)$-resonance in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

2013

We stress, on theoretical and phenomenological grounds, the importance of the $\Delta(1232)$-resonance in a chiral effective field theory approach applied to the study of $\pi N$ scattering. We show how its inclusion as a dynamical degree of freedom allow us to obtain reliably valuable information from $\pi N$ scattering data.

A convenient route for the preparation of the monohydride catalyst trans-[RuCl(H)(dppe)2] (dppe=Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2): improved synthesis and crystal struc…

2013

Abstract A novel and improved room temperature synthesis of the monohydride catalyst trans-[RuCl(H)(dppe)2] complex (1, dppe (1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) = Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) proceeds through oxidation of methanol (the solvent) by the pentacoordinated cis-[RuCl(dppe)2][PF6] complex and t-BuOK as the base is described. Compound 1 was fully characterized by NMR (1H, 13C, 31P), ESI-MS(TOF +), FTIR and elemental analysis. The X-ray structure of 1 was reported for the first time and unambiguously confirms the trans-configuration of the complex.
