Properties of nuclei in the nobelium region studied within the covariant, Skyrme, and Gogny energy density functionals

We calculate properties of the ground and excited states of nuclei in the nobelium region for proton and neutron numbers of 92 <= Z <= 104 and 144 <= N <= 156, respectively. We use three different energy-density-functional (EDF) approaches, based on covariant, Skyrme, and Gogny functionals, each within two different parameter sets. A comparative analysis of the results obtained for odd-even mass staggerings, quasiparticle spectra, and moments of inertia allows us to identify single-particle and shell effects that are characteristic to these different models and to illustrate possible systematic uncertainties related to using the EDF modelling

Experiments on threshold pion electroproduction

Experimental techniques to access the reactions p(e, e′ p)π0 and d(e, e′ d)π0 at low four momentum transfer and close to threshold are presented. For p(e, e′ p)π0 results at Q 2=0.1 GeV2/c 2 are given and compared to chiral perturbation theory. A new experimental program on d(e, e′ d)π0 is presented.

On the condition number of the antireflective transform

Abstract Deconvolution problems with a finite observation window require appropriate models of the unknown signal in order to guarantee uniqueness of the solution. For this purpose it has recently been suggested to impose some kind of antireflectivity of the signal. With this constraint, the deconvolution problem can be solved with an appropriate modification of the fast sine transform, provided that the convolution kernel is symmetric. Normalizability, Synchronicity, and Relative Exactness for Vector Fields in C2

In this paper, we study the necessary and su.cient condition under which an orbitally normalizable vector field of saddle or saddle-node type in C2 is analytically conjugate to its formal normal form (i.e., normalizable) by a transformation fixing the leaves of the foliation locally. First, we express this condition in terms of the relative exactness of a certain 1-form derived from comparing the time-form of the vector field with the time-form of the normal form. Monotonic solution of heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion problems

Anisotropic problems arise in various areas of science and engineering, for example groundwater transport and petroleum reservoir simulations. The pure diffusive anisotropic time-dependent transport problem is solved on a finite number of nodes, that are selected inside and on the boundary of the given domain, along with possible internal boundaries connecting some of the nodes. Abstract BM-21 is an extract obtained from Thalassia testudinum marine plant with pharmacological properties. The effects of BM-21 and thalassiolin B (TB), its main component, on enzyme and transport proteins involved in drug metabolism and excretion in human cultured hepatocytes were evaluated. Cells were exposed for 48 h to sub-cytotoxic concentrations of BM-21 or TB. Effects on P450 isoforms revealed significant reductions of CYP1A2, 3A4 and 2D6 activities (up to 56%, 66% and 44% inhibition, respectively) after exposition to BM-21, no changes on CYP2A6 and 2C9 activities. Activity and expression of drug metabolizing enzymes in olfactory mucosa of rats treated by hepatic inducers

International audience; Several drug-metabolizing enzymes (DME), such as cytochrome P450- dependent monooxygenases (CYP) and transferases have been characterized in the olfactory epithelium. Some of them are preferentially expressed in this tissue, while others are similar to those present in the liver. The role of these enzymes remains unclear. Since the olfactory mucosa is in direct contact with the external environment, these enzymes can contribute to the detoxification of chemical compounds. Characterization and disruption of the cipC gene in the ochratoxigenic fungus Aspergillus carbonarius

Aspergillus carbonarius is considered the most important ochratoxin A (OTA) producing fungi among those causing OTA contamination in grapes and grape-derived products. CipC is a small protein with unknown function that was previously found to be highly up-regulated in an OTA producer strain of A. carbonarius in comparison to a non OTA producer strain. In this study, cipC was characterized and disrupted via Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation in an ochratoxigenic A. carbonarius strain in order to study whether this gene has a role in OTA production.
