Approach to the analysis of nonlinear feedback oscillators under large-signal injection

1986

A method for the analysis of driven oscillators under high-level injection is presented. It applies to single-loop feedback systems with a memoryless nonlinear element and a second-order (high-Q) tank circuit. The analysis technique employed combines the classical block-diagram approach with an improved firstharmonic dynamic modelling to provide a couple of differential equations capable of accounting for the amplitude-dependence effects arising under large-signal operation. On this basis, first-and second-order approximate expressions are also derived, which allow a better understanding of the validity limits of previous theories on this subject. As an example of application, both the stea…

A novel flexible approach for prediction and on line diagnostic of partial discharge

2004

Partial discharges (PD), due to unavoidable local defects produced by the industrial manufacturing process, can determine local erosion of the material that may cause the electrical breakdown of the component in which the dielectric material represents the fundamental part. Recently, improved diagnostics of electrical insulation systems by means of electric PD measurements through a stochastic processing of the acquired data have been carried out. In this way, the identification of the defects as well, as the separation of multiple defects simultaneously active, have been performed. In this paper, a novel flexible approach for the on-line characterization of the defects in a dielectric mate…

Transient response in nonlinear region of molten polymers subjected to a sudden imposition of constant shear stress or constant electric field

1980

Experimental transient results in the nonlinear region are reported for a commercial polyisobutylene subjected to sudden imposition of either a constant shear stress or a constant electric field. Some steady-state results, eventually obtained in different types of experiments, are also considered. In both cases, a model analysis is presented that accounts for the nonlinear effects through changes in the free volume depending upon the applied stress. The good comparison between theoretical predictions and experimental results seems to indicate that the phenomenological approach advanced here is very promising.

Unravelling steady-state bulk recombination dynamics in thick efficient vacuum-deposited perovskite solar cells by transient methods

2019

Accurately identifying and understanding the dominant charge carrier recombination mechanism in perovskite solar cells are of crucial importance for further improvements of this already promising photovoltaic technology. Both optical and electrical transient methods have previously been employed to strive for this warranted goal. However, electrical techniques can be strongly influenced by the capacitive response of the device which hides the carrier recombination dynamics that are relevant under steady state conditions. To ascertain the identification of steady state relevant charge carrier dynamics, it is beneficial to evaluate thicker films to minimize the impact of device capacitance. H…

Monitoring of Cell Layer Integrity with a Current-Driven Organic Electrochemical Transistor

2019

Abstract The integrity of CaCo-2 cell barriers is investigated by organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) in a current-driven configuration. Ion transport through cellular barriers via the paracellular pathway is modulated by tight junctions between adjacent cells. Rupturing its integrity by H2O2 is monitored by the change of the output voltage in the transfer characteristics. It is demonstrated that by operating the OECT in a current-driven configuration, the sensitive and temporal resolution for monitoring the cell barrier integrity is strongly enhanced as compared to the OECT transient response measurement. As a result, current-driven OECTs are useful tools to assess dynamic and crit…

Predictive dead time controller for GaN-based boost converters

2017

A dynamic dead time controller is presented, specifically intended to operate in synchronous boost converters based on GaN field-effect transistor switches. These transistors have a reduced stored charge with respect to silicon metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors with similar breakdown voltage and series resistance, and can operate at higher frequencies with reduced switching losses. On the other hand, the voltage drop in reverse conduction is typically more than doubled with respect to silicon devices resulting in relevant power losses during the free-wheeling phases. Therefore, dynamic control of dead time can be profitably applied even in converters operating in the tens o…

Constructing transient response probability density of non-linear system through complex fractional moments

2014

Abstract The probability density function for transient response of non-linear stochastic system is investigated through the stochastic averaging and Mellin transform. The stochastic averaging based on the generalized harmonic functions is adopted to reduce the system dimension and derive the one-dimensional Ito stochastic differential equation with respect to amplitude response. To solve the Fokker–Plank–Kolmogorov equation governing the amplitude response probability density, the Mellin transform is first implemented to obtain the differential relation of complex fractional moments. Combining the expansion form of transient probability density with respect to complex fractional moments an…

Transient Radiation Responses of Optical Fibers: Influence of MCVD Process Parameters

2012

International audience; A dedicated set of fibers elaborated via the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) technique is used to study the influence of composition and drawing parameters on their responses to an X-ray pulse representative of the radiation environments associated with Megajoule class lasers. These canonical fibers were designed to highlight the impact of these parameters on the amplitude and kinetics of the transient pulsed X-ray Radiation Induced Attenuation (RIA) at room temperature. From preforms differing by their core composition, three optical fibers were elaborated by varying the tension and speed during the drawing process. No or only slight RIA change results fro…

Identification of a Hammerstein model for DC/DC converters operating in CCM

2005

This paper deals with a method for identification of a Hammerstein model of DC-DC converters operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). This model has the duty cycle and the output voltage as input and output, respectively; it consists of a static nonlinearity and a linear and time-invariant model. The aim of the modeling the system by means of a Hammerstein model is due to its capability of describing the converter in a range of steady-state operating points instead of a desired well defined operating point as occurs for the small-signal models which are the more common mathematical description to approach the study of the converters themselves. The nonlinear characteristic of the Hamm…

INFLUENCE OF UNCERTAINTIES ON PD TUNING

2013

The aim of this work is to present a method for tuning the parameters of PD controller under the influences of the uncertainties, in order to stabilize the position of a rotor supported by active magnetic bearings (AMBs). The uncertainties are relative to mass, transverse and polar moment of inertia of the rotor. The introduction of the uncertainties is due to an incomplete modeled dynamic of the system or in the case the system being subjected to a parametric variation. The presence of the uncertainties produces a set of differences among the values of the output. Poles displacement method is used to reach the asymptotically stability condition characterized by a periodic oscillation durin…
