Dielectric-Optical Switches: Photoluminescent, EPR, and Magnetic Studies on Organic–Inorganic Hybrid (azetidinium)2MnBr4

A new organic–inorganic hybrid, AZEMnBr, has been synthesized and characterized. The thermal differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis, and thermogravimetric analyses indicate one structural phase transition (PT) at 346 and 349 K, on cooling and heating, respectively. AZEMnBr crystallizes at 365 K in the orthorhombic, Pnma, structure, which transforms to monoclinic P21/n at 200 K. Due to the X-ray diffraction studies, the anionic MnBr42– moiety is discrete. The azetidinium cations show dynamical disorder in the high-temperature phase. In the proposed structural PT, the mechanism is classified as an order–disorder type. Optical transitions and excitonic recombination in InAs/InP self-assembled quantum wires

InAs self-assembled quantum wire structures have been grown on InP substrates and studied by means of photoluminescence and polarized-light absorption measurements. According to our calculations, the observed optical transitions in each sample are consistent with wires of different heights, namely from 6 to 13 monolayers. The nonradiative mechanism limiting the emission intensity at room temperature is related to thermal escape of carriers out of the wires.

Numerical evidence of hyperscaling violation in wetting transitions of the random-bond Ising model in d = 2 dimensions

We performed extensive simulations of the random-bond Ising model confined between walls where competitive surface fields act. By properly taking the thermodynamic limit we unambiguously determined wetting transition points of the system, as extrapolation of localization-delocalization transitions of the interface between domains of different orientation driven by the respective fields. The finite-size scaling theory for wetting with short-range fields establishes that the average magnetization of the sample, with critical exponent β, is the proper order parameter for the study of wetting. Dynamical Ising-like model for the two-step spin-crossover systems

In order to reproduce the two-step relaxation observed experimentally in spin-crossover systems, we investigate analytically the static and the dynamic properties of a two-sublattice Ising-like Hamiltonian. The formalism is based on a stochastic master equation approach. X(5) critical-point symmetries in 138Gd

International audience; The lifetimes of low-lying transitions in 138Gd have been measured using the recoil-distance Doppler-shift technique. The resultant reduced transition probabilities have been compared to X(5) critical-point calculations to assess the potential 'phase-transitional' behaviour of 138Gd. The X(5) symmetry describes the first order 'phase transition' between sphericity, U(5) and an axially deformed nuclear shape, SU(3). The growth of a spontaneous lattice average magnetization in a magnetic system which is suddenly brought below the transition temperature is a stochastic process in which the very small fluctuations of the initial magnetization are amplified to a macroscopic size. The initial magnetization fluctuates in time around the zero average value because of the finite size of the system. Effects of heat flux on lambda transition in liquid 4He,

This paper is concerned with the derivation of a phase field model for λ-transition in 4He, when the liquid is subject to pressure and heat flux. As parameter that controls the transition, a field f that is the geometrical mean between the density of the fluid and that of the superfluid is used. The resulting model, that is a generalization of previous papers on the same subject, chooses as field variables the density, the velocity, the temperature and the heat flux, in addition to this field f. Influence effect of an external electric field and dissipative tunneling on intracenter optical transitions in quantum molecules with D2- states

In the zero-range potential model and in the effective mass approximation, dispersion equations have been obtained, that describe dependence of the average binding energies of the quasistationary g- and u-states of the D − 2 - center in the QD, as well as the widths of energy levels on the magnitude of the external electric field and the parameters of 1D-dissipative tunneling. Dips in the field dependences of the binding energies average values for quasi-stationary g- and u-states have been revealed.
