Fatigue methodology for life predictions for the wheel-rail contact area in large offshore turret bearings

The present report presents a fatigue life prediction method for large roller bearings applied in the turret turn table for large loading buoy units. The contact points between wheel and rail in these bearings are subjected to a multi-axial fluctuating stress situation and both surface wear and fatigue cracking may occur. A methodology based on the Dang Van fatigue criterion is adopted. The criterion is based on an equivalent stress defined as a combination of the fluctuation of the shear stress from its mean value at a critical plane and the associated hydrostatic stress at the given time. The two main sources of internal friction in a rotor-shaft system are the shaft structural hysteresis and the possible shrink-fit release of the assembly. A Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling of stiffened composite panels with through-the-thickness cracks and/or delaminations is presented. The structure is modeled as the assembly of plate elements whose behavior is described by the First-order Shear Deformation Theory and von Karman’s geometric nonlinearities. Penalty techniques ensure continuity along the edges of contiguous plate elements and the enforcement of the restraints on the external boundaries. Compensation of compliance errors in parallel manipulators composed of non-perfect kinematic chains

The paper is devoted to the compliance errors compensation for parallel manipulators under external loading. Proposed approach is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling and reduces to a proper adjusting of a target trajectory. In contrast to previous works, in addition to compliance errors caused by machining forces, the problem of assembling errors caused by inaccuracy in the kinematic chains is considered. The advantages and practical significance of the proposed approach are illustrated by examples that deal with groove milling with Orthoglide manipulator.
Compliance error compensation technique for parallel robots composed of non-perfect serial chains

The paper presents the compliance errors compensation technique for over-constrained parallel manipulators under external and internal loadings. This technique is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling which is able to take into account the influence of non-perfect geometry of serial chains caused by manufacturing errors. Within the developed technique, the deviation compensation reduces to an adjustment of a target trajectory that is modified in the off-line mode.
