Observational Effects of Anomalous Boundary Layers in Relativistic Jets

Recent theoretical work has pointed out that the transition layer between a jet an the medium surrounding it may be more complex than previously thought. Under physically realizable conditions, the transverse profile of the Lorentz factor in the boundary layer can be non-monotonic, displaying the absolute maximum where the flow is faster than at the jet spine, followed by an steep fall off. Likewise, the rest-mass density, reaches an absolute minimum (coincident with the maximum in Lorentz factor) and then grows until it reaches the external medium value. The mechanism(s) behind coronal heating still elude(s) direct observation and modelling of viable theoretical processes and the subsequent effect on coronal structures is one of the key tools available to assess possible heating mechanisms. Wave heating via the phase mixing of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) transverse waves has been proposed as a possible way to convert magnetic energy into thermal energy, but MHD models increasingly suggest this is not an efficient enough mechanism. Lepton mass effects for beam-normal single-spin asymmetry in elastic muon-proton scattering

We estimate the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry in elastic lepton-proton scattering without employing the ultrarelativistic approximation. Our calculation is relevant for analyses of muon scattering at energies of few hundred MeV and below -- when effects of the muon mass become essential. At such energies, the transverse polarization of the muon beam is expected to contribute significantly to the systematic uncertainty of precision measurements of elastic muon-proton scattering. We evaluate such systematics using an example of the MUSE experiment at PSI. The muon asymmetry is estimated at about 0.1\% in kinematics of MUSE and it is the largest for scattering into a backward hemisphere.

We present a general theory of quantum fluctuations of dissipative structures in nonlinear optical cavities with transverse translation invariance. Perfect squeezing of the transverse momentum, detectable under homodyning, occurs irrespectively of the system parameters.

Transverse pattern formation in both degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing is considered both theoretically and numerically. In the limit of small signal detuning both systems are shown to be described by the real Swift-Hohenberg equation. Contrarily, for small signal and large pump detunings the Swift-Hohenberg equation is modified differently in both systems, by the appearance of additional nonlinear terms, which signal the existence of nonlinear resonances that are theoretically studied through the derivation of the amplitude equation for the roll pattern in both systems. Abstract The present status of theoretical and experimental investigations of solitary excitations in one-dimensional magnetic systems is reviewed. A survey of exact solutions to the nonlinear equations of motion for pertinent classical chain systems (sine-Gordon chain and ferromagnetic Heisenberg chains with various anisotropies) is given. Particular emphasis is devoted to the role of solitons in the thermodynamics of such systems. Models corresponding to real quasi-one-dimensional magnets are broadly discussed to demonstrate the properties of their solitary excitations. Diffractive dijet production from the Color Glass Condensate and the small-x gluon distributions

We study exclusive dijet production in electron-proton deep inelastic scattering at a future Electron Ion Collider. We predict the elliptic modulation of the cross section as a function of the angle between the dijet transverse momentum and the recoil momentum, and show that this modulation is due to non-trivial angular correlations between the transverse coordinate and transverse momentum in the Wigner (or Husimi) distribution. The small-$x$ evolution is shown to decrease the elliptic modulation in the EIC kinematics, because of the growth of the proton with decreasing $x$.
Longitudinal and azimuthal evolution of two-particle transverse momentum correlations in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76TeV

This paper presents the first measurements of the charge independent (CI) and charge dependent (CD) two-particle transverse momentum correlators G2CI and G2CD in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76TeV by the ALICE collaboration. The two-particle transverse momentum correlator G2 was introduced as a measure of the momentum current transfer between neighboring system cells. The correlators are measured as a function of pair separation in pseudorapidity (Δη) and azimuth (Δφ) and as a function of collision centrality. Measurements of the induced polarization in the quasi-elastic A(e,e′p→) process in non-coplanar kinematics

Abstract We report measurements of the induced polarization P → of protons knocked out from 2H and 12C via the A ( e , e ′ p → ) reaction. We have studied the dependence of P → on two kinematic variables: the missing momentum p miss and the “off-coplanarity” angle ϕ p q between the scattering and reaction planes. For the full 360° range in ϕ p q , both the normal ( P y ) and, for the first time, the transverse ( P x ) components of the induced polarization were measured with respect to the coordinate system associated with the scattering plane. P x vanishes in coplanar kinematics, however in non-coplanar kinematics, it is on the same scale as P y . We find that the dependence on ϕ p q is si…
Interpolation of non-abelian lattice gauge fields

We propose a method for interpolating non-abelian lattice gauge fields to the continuum, or to a finer lattice, which satisfies the properties of (i) transverse continuity, (ii) (lattice) rotation and translation covariance, (iii) gauge covariance, (iv) locality. These are the properties required for use in our earlier proposal for non-perturbative formulation and simulation of chiral gauge theories.
