Synthetic Endeavors toward Titanium Based Frustrated Lewis Pairs with Controlled Electronic and Steric Properties
2015
A new family of cationic Ti complexes 4′ with a pendant phosphine of general formula [CpCpPTiOAr][BPh4] (Cp = η5-C5H5; CpP = η5-C5H4(CMe2)PR2) has been prepared in four steps from 6,6-dimethylfulvene. These complexes were designed to behave as Ti based frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). The key synthetic step is a reduction–oxidation sequence from [CpCpPTiClOAr] complexes 3 using lithium phosphide salts as the reductants and ferricinium tetraphenylborate as the oxidant. Four complexes have been structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction and show elongated Ti–P bonds, above 2.60 A. One complex (4b′: OAr = 2,6-Me2C6H3; PR2 = PCy2) reacted with benzaldehyde to form a typical FLP activation pr…
Necessità del disegno
2018
Enhancing emotional intelligence at school: Evaluation of the effectiveness of a two-year intervention program in Spanish pre-adolescents
2017
Abstract The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a two-year intervention program to promote emotional intelligence (EI) at school. Participants were 228 primary school pupils between 10 and 11 years old. This study evaluated the effects of the intervention using a pre- and post-experimental design with a control group and four evaluation moments. EI was assessed with the EQ-i:YV questionnaire by Bar-On and Parker (2000), adapted to Spanish by Ferrandiz, Hernandez, Bermejo, Ferrando, and Sainz (2012). The results showed the effectiveness of the intervention, highlighting an increase in all the EI dimensions of the Bar-On model: intrapersonal, interpersonal, st…
Rahastojen menestys Suomessa 1997 - 2015
2016
Tässä työssä on tutkittu suomalaisten, aktiivisesti Suomeen sijoittavien rahastojen me-nestystä ja tuuria tai taitoa menestyksen taustalla. Tutkimuksen kohteena oleva ajanjak-so on 1997 – 2015.
Trapping of quasiparticles of a nonequilibrium superconductor
2000
We have performed experiments where hot electrons are extracted from a normal metal into a superconductor through a tunnel junction. We have measured the cooling performance of such NIS junctions, especially in the cases where another normal metal electrode, a quasiparticle trap, is attached to the superconductor at different distances from the junction in direct metal-to-metal contact or through an oxide barrier. The direct contact at a submicron distance allows superior thermalization of the superconductor. We have analyzed theoretically the heat transport in this system. From both experiment and theory, it appears that NIS junctions can be used as refrigerators at low temperatures only w…
Currents reconstruction by means of a new 2D extrapolation matrix
2007
The equivalent currents reconstructed on the surface of an antenna from its far field measurements have a limited resolution. This is because just the visible part of the spectrum, i.e. the inner part of the circle of radius k (the wavenumber), can be obtained with this technique. The zero padding technique is used for improving the precision; however this technique does not improve the resolution and additional methods must be applied. One of the most used is the Gerchberg-Papoulis algorithm. This technique obtains the non visible spectrum from just the visible region and the maximum size of the antenna. The main disadvantage of this algorithm is that, since it is iterative, it takes a lon…
Trapping cold atoms using surface-grown carbon nanotubes
2008
We present a feasibility study for loading cold atomic clouds into magnetic traps created by single-wall carbon nanotubes grown directly onto dielectric surfaces. We show that atoms may be captured for experimentally sustainable nanotube currents, generating trapped clouds whose densities and lifetimes are sufficient to enable detection by simple imaging methods. This opens the way for a different type of conductor to be used in atomchips, enabling atom trapping at submicron distances, with implications for both fundamental studies and for technological applications.

Biomechanical comparison between the modified rolling-hitch and the modified finger-trap suture techniques
2016
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to characterize the biomechanical effect of two grasping suture techniques used during ligament reconstruction: the modified rolling-hitch (MRH) and the modified finger-trap (MFT). Methods: Flexor profundus tendons were harvested from fresh pig hind-leg trotters. Each specimen was mounted on an electro-mechanic universal testing machine (Instron 3367). In half of all tendons (15 specimens), the suture was passed around the tendon following the MRH knot (Group 1). In the remaining half of all tendons (15 specimens), the suture was passed over a distance of 30 mm according to the MFT suture technique (Group 2). As per standard intra-operative technique, …
Phylogenetic analysis of the thiolase family. Implications for the evolutionary origin of peroxisomes
1992
The thiolase family is a widespread group of proteins present in prokaryotes and three cellular compartments of eukaryotes. This fact makes this family interesting in order to study the evolutionary process of eukaryotes. Using the sequence of peroxisomal thiolase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae recently obtained by us and the other known thiolase sequences, a phylogenetic analysis has been carried out. It shows that all these proteins derived from a primitive enzyme, present in the common ancestor of eubacteria and eukaryotes, which evolved into different specialized thiolases confined to various cell compartments. The evolutionary tree obtained is compatible with the endosymbiotic theory fo…
