Norm or numerical radius attaining polynomials on C(K)
2004
Abstract Let C(K, C ) be the Banach space of all complex-valued continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space K. We study when the following statement holds: every norm attaining n-homogeneous complex polynomial on C(K, C ) attains its norm at extreme points. We prove that this property is true whenever K is a compact Hausdorff space of dimension less than or equal to one. In the case of a compact metric space a characterization is obtained. As a consequence we show that, for a scattered compact Hausdorff space K, every continuous n-homogeneous complex polynomial on C(K, C ) can be approximated by norm attaining ones at extreme points and also that the set of all extreme points of the u…
Experimente zur Zeolithbildung durch hydrothermale Umwandlung
1974
The formation of zeolites by hydrothermal alteration has been investigated by taking trass from the Laach volcanic area as a sample. Zeolites to be found are chabazite, phillipsite and analcime, all of which originated from the same phonolitic glass. This paper aims at explaining the formation of zeolites by means of experimental alteration of the pumice with various solutions. NaOH and KOH solutions were used in the experiments, these limited the formation conditions of chabazite, phillipsite, analcime in alkaline environments. Moreover, experiments were carried out with H2O dist and with solutions that formed during the alteration of pumice by reacting with H2O. These experiments were con…
Characteristic Sturmian words are extremal for the Critical Factorization Theorem
2012
We prove that characteristic Sturmian words are extremal for the Critical Factorization Theorem (CFT) in the following sense. If p x ( n ) denotes the local period of an infinite word x at point n , we prove that x is a characteristic Sturmian word if and only if p x ( n ) is smaller than or equal to n + 1 for all n ≥ 1 and it is equal to n + 1 for infinitely many integers n . This result is extremal with respect to the \{CFT\} since a consequence of the \{CFT\} is that, for any infinite recurrent word x, either the function p x is bounded, and in such a case x is periodic, or p x ( n ) ≥ n + 1 for infinitely many integers n . As a byproduct of the techniques used in the paper we extend a r…
Pietsch's factorization theorem for dominated polynomials
2007
Abstract We prove that, like in the linear case, there is a canonical prototype of a p -dominated homogeneous polynomial through which every p -dominated polynomial between Banach spaces factors.
A Periodicity Theorem on Words and Applications
1995
We prove a periodicity theorem on words that has strong analogies with the Critical Factorization theorem and we show three applications of it.
Factorization at Subleading Power, Sudakov Resummation and Endpoint Divergences in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory
2020
Starting from the first renormalized factorization theorem for a process described at subleading power in soft-collinear effective theory, we discuss the resummation of Sudakov logarithms for such processes in renormalization-group improved perturbation theory. Endpoint divergences in convolution integrals, which arise generically beyond leading power, are regularized and removed by systematically rearranging the factorization formula. We study in detail the example of the $b$-quark induced $h\to\gamma\gamma$ decay of the Higgs boson, for which we resum large logarithms of the ratio $M_h/m_b$ at next-to-leading logarithmic order. We also briefly discuss the related $gg\to h$ amplitude.
Educare il bambino alla vita interiore. La lezione di Maria Montessori nel tempo della post-democrazia
2014
Maria Montessori’s pedagogy of interiority carried out in the “Houses of Children” is relevant to the postmodern age. By focusing on the care of the child’s inner life, Montessori’s lesson offers the new generations authentic religious practices, thus responding to the new, increasingly widespread, need for sacred. On this wake, contemporary pedagogy is re-launching childhood as a new resource for the adult, endeavouring to transform the environments where education takes place into laboratories of peace and democracy.
Transkendenttiluvuista
2015
Tämän pro gradu - tutkielman aiheena on transkendenttiluvut. Näiden kolmen lauseen avulla voidaan todistaa joitakin lukuja transkendenttisiksi. Yleisesti ottaen luvun transkendenttiseksi todistaminen on vaikeaa, eikä yleistä menetelmää tähän tunneta. Nämä kolme lausetta kuitenkin auttavat joissakin tapauksissa, kuten todistamaan e:n ja piin transkendenttisiksi. Tutkielma etenee m ääritelmien ja perusalgebran kautta p äätulosten esittelyyn ja transkendenttisyy…
A recurrence-free variant of strassen’s algorithm on hypercube
1995
In this paper a non-recursive Strassen’s matrix multiplication algorithm is presented. This new algorithm is suitable to run on parallel environments. Two computational schemes have been worked out exploiting different parallel approaches on hypercube architecture. A comparative analysis is reported. The experiments have been carried out on an nCUBE-2 supercomputer, housed at CNUCE in Pisa, supporting the Express parallel operating system. © 1995, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
The forgotten mathematical legacy of Peano
2019
International audience; The formulations that Peano gave to many mathematical notions at the end of the 19th century were so perfect and modern that they have become standard today. A formal language of logic that he created, enabled him to perceive mathematics with great precision and depth. He described mathematics axiomatically basing the reasoning exclusively on logical and set-theoretical primitive terms and properties, which was revolutionary at that time. Yet, numerous Peano’s contributions remain either unremembered or underestimated.
