Are Online Haters Psychopaths? Psychological Predictors of Online Hating Behavior
2020
Despite growing prevalence of derogatory online behaviors, still little is known about psychological factors underlying this negative phenomenon. In the present study, we aimed to compare characteristics of persons who post hating and non-hating comments about Polish sports players during Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang (2018) on the Internet. Ninety-four Internet users (41% women) participated in the study, among which 46 posted hating comments. After one month, participants were invited to take part in a psychological survey, and filled the Dark Triad questionnaire, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Scale of Frustration, and the Scale of Envy. Results showed that high scores in Ps…
COVID ‐19, thromboembolic risk, and Virchow's triad: Lesson from the past
2020
Abstract COronavirus Infectious Disease which started in 2019 (COVID‐19) usually presents with the signs and symptoms of pneumonia. However, a growing number of recent reports highlight the fact that the infection may be by far more than only a respiratory disease. There is evidence of an increased thromboembolic risk in COVID‐19 patients, with a variety of manifestations in terms of ischemic stroke, deep vein thrombosis, acute pulmonary embolism, acute myocardial infarction, systemic arterial embolism, and placental thrombosis. The German physician Rudolph Virchow, about two centuries ago, described three pivotal factors contributing together to thromboembolic risk: endothelial injury, hyp…
Hepatic Sinusoidal Dilatation: A Review of Causes With Imaging-Pathologic Correlation.
2016
Hepatic sinusoids are vascular conduits connecting the portal triad with the central vein. Multiple conditions can lead to sinusoidal dilatation and congestion with resultant stasis of blood within the lumen. The altered hemodynamics associated with hepatic sinusoidal dilatation generally result in heterogeneous enhancement of the hepatic parenchyma on contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, a pattern often described as “mosaic” enhancement. In this article, we review the causes of hepatic sinusoidal dilatation and the imaging manifestations on contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance.
Antidepressant Effects of Exercise: A Role for the Adiponectin-PGC-1α-kynurenine Triad?
2015
It is well-recognized that exercise improves mental health, e.g., by decreasing depressive behaviors, improving hippocampal-dependent learning and neurogenesis, and increasing dendritic plasticity. Yet how exercise influences the brain at the molecular level is not clearly understood. Yau et al recently reported that the antidepressant effects of physical exercise are mainly mediated by adiponectin, an adipocyte-secreted hormone ('adipocytokine') with neuroprotective effects at the central nervous system level (Yau et al., 2014). 4.155 JCR (2015) Q1, 12/83 Physiology; Q2, 63/187 Cell biology UEM
Lipid triad or atherogenic lipoprotein phenotype: a role in cardiovascular prevention?
2005
The term "lipid triad" or "atherogenic lipoprotein phenotype" has been introduced to describe a common form of dyslipidemia, characterized by three lipid abnormalities: increased plasma triglyceride levels, decreased HDL-cholesterol concentrations and the presence of small, dense LDL particles. It has been suggested that the clinical importance of the atherogenic lipoprotein phenotype probably exceeds that of LDL-cholesterol, because many more patients with coronary artery disease are found to have this trait than hypercholesterolaemia. There is a body of evidence that therapies effective against plasma HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides are associated with a strong reduction of cardiovascul…
The Psychopathy Checklist and non-violent offender groups
1992
Cleckley’s concept of psychopathy includes characteristics such as superficial charm, unreliability, and affective poverty. In this study, the Psychopathy Checklist (PCL) and personality questionnaires (MMPI, CPI, EPQ, and SSS) were used to assess 92 non-violent male offenders. The variable-based approach was applied in order to study the structure of the PCL and the relationships between the PCL, the PCL factors and the personality questionnaire scores. The results indicated that the personality scale scores failed to correlate positively with the PCL score, with the exception of the MMPI hypomania score. Two PCL factors emerged: factor 1 related to the core personality characteristics of …
HAGHÌA TRIÀDA (CRETA): REINTEGRAZIONE DELLA LACUNA COME PRESENZA DELL’ASSENZA
2015

Co-parental Couples and New Families: A Study of the Primary Triad
2015
Abstract Starting from current areas of research in the field of developmental theories, the aim of this work is to analyse parent-child interactions within a primary triad and to consider co-parenting couple and their children as an interactive matrix. In particular, parent-child relationship could be observed trough new developmental units of observation and coding systems in the multiple scenarios of new families. The deepening of this study may promote an effective connection between research and educational support as well as clinical work with families and parental couples.
The Dark Triad, goal achievement and work engagement as predictors of counterproductive work behaviors among IT employees
2020
BackgroundThe main purpose of this article is to analyze mechanisms associated with counterproductive work behaviors. This entails ac-tions directed against the employer’s interest such as theft, slowing the work down, and avoiding professional responsibilities. This paper analyzes Dark Triad traits of psychopathy, Machiavellianism and narcissism, achievement motivation and work en-gagement as counterproductive work behavior predictors.Participants and procedureThe study included 115 people, 92 men and 23 women, who were employees of technology departments. The average age of respondents is 27.41 (Me = 26). Participants were surveyed using the online questionnaire method.ResultsStatistical …
