Singular distributed parameter systems

1993

The paper deals with the distributed parameter systems described by coupled partial differential equations with singular matrix coefficients. Initial-boundary-value problems are considered in the light of both singular 1d systems theory and the Fourier approach to distributed parameter systems. The method presented in this paper gives the possibility of determining acceptable initial-boundary conditions. An illustrative example is given.

Identification of Distributed Systems with Logical Interaction Structure

2012

This paper focuses on the structure identification problem for a class of networked systems, where the interaction among components or agents is described through logical maps. In particular, agents are heterogeneous cooperating systems, i.e. they may have different individual dynamics and different interaction rules depending on input events. While we assume that the individual agents' dynamics are known, each agent has partial knowledge of the logical map encoding the interaction of another agent with its neighbors. Based on the so-called algebraic normal form for binary functions, we present a technique by which the network structure described by a logical function can be dynamically est…

A secure architecture for P2PSIP-based communication systems

2009

Today, Peer-to-Peer SIP based communication systems have attracted much attention from both academia and industry. The decentralized nature of P2P might provide the distributed peer-to-peer communication system without help of the traditional SIP server. However, it comes to the cost of reduced manageability and therefore causes security problems, e.g. distrust, privacy leaks, unpredictable availability, etc. In this paper, we investigate on P2PSIP security issues and propose a proxy-based system architecture that improves security during P2PSIP session initiation. The main issues considered in this architecture include Source inter-working, Encryption & Decryption, Policy Management, Desti…

Current status of AlInN layers lattice-matched to GaN for photonics and electronics

2007

We report on the current properties of Al1-x InxN (x approximate to 0.18) layers lattice- matched ( LM) to GaN and their specific use to realize nearly strain- free structures for photonic and electronic applications. Following a literature survey of the general properties of AlInN layers, structural and optical properties of thin state- of- the- art AlInN layers LM to GaN are described showing that despite improved structural properties these layers are still characterized by a typical background donor concentration of ( 1 - 5) x 10(18) cm(-3) and a large Stokes shift (similar to 800 meV) between luminescence and absorption edge. The use of these AlInN layers LM to GaN is then exemplified …

EU transition in power sector: How RES affects the design and operations of transmission power systems

2019

In the past, much of Europe's electricity grid network has been designed in consideration of the locations of conventional generation plants. However, a large share of today's renewables production – notably variable wind and solar – does not correspond to this grid architecture. Interconnectors, in addition to internal infrastructure, are key to creating new electricity corridors to connect areas of surplus to areas of scarcity. In this context, in 2014 the European Council, in recognizing that a fundamental role of transmission infrastructure is to enable the integration of areas of high renewable energy potential with main consumption areas, endorsed the proposal by the European Commissi…

Influence of light polarization on the dynamics of optically pumped lasers.

1990

The dynamic behavior of a coherently pumped ring laser with a homogeneously broadened four-level medium is analyzed theoretically, considering linearly polarized pump and generated laser beams. The laser is shown to be much more stable when these polarizations are parallel than when they are orthogonal. In the latter case the instability pump threshold can be as low as four times the first laser threshold, and the laser dynamics shows Lorenz-type features.

Comprehensive Theoretical and Experimental Study of Short- and Long-Term Stability in a Passively Mode-Locked Solitonic Fiber Laser

2015

We demonstrate the short- and long-term stable operation of an all-polarization-maintained Fabry–Perot cavity passively mode-locked fiber laser. The laser operates in an all-anomalous-dispersion solitonic regime. Laser stability is studied by a variety of measurements, which confirm the high stability of the laser in the temporal and spectral–both optical and electrical-domains. Pulse durations of 540 fs, period-relative time jitters of $\sim$ 0.015‰, and long-term uninterrumped operation with 0.4% variation (standard deviation) in the average output power are obtained. The highly stable operation of the laser oscillator was maintained after amplifying the laser output with a conventional E…

Threshold of a Symmetrically Pumped Distributed Feedback Fiber Laser With a Variable Phase Shift

2008

In this paper, we study, both theoretically and experimentally, the threshold characteristics of a distributed feedback fiber laser that depend on the value of a phase shift introduced into the fiber Bragg grating structure. We show that as the phase shift possesses a noticeable birefringence, the laser oscillates at any phase shift value. We also reveal that the laser threshold is different for the cavity eigen polarizations and depends on the phase shift value. We derive a simple analytical formula to calculate the laser threshold in the case of pi phase shift; this formula can be utilized to estimate a minimal threshold value for the laser with certain active fiber and Bragg grating para…

Transverse effects in ring fiber laser multimode instabilities

2000

We study the influence of the transverse structure of pump and lasing fields and of the width of the doped region on the conditions for the appearance of the multimode instability in an ${\mathrm{Er}}^{3+}$-doped ring fiber laser. We show that the instability can be inhibited while maintaining a large output power when the radius of the doped region is a fraction of the core radius.
