Variazioni temporali della struttura di taglia in popolazioni sfruttate di Haliotis tuberculata (Mollusca Gastropoda) nel Golfo di Sferracavallo (PA)
2007
This study aims at evaluating the differences in size structure of population of H. tuberculata in the Gulf of Sferracavallo (northern Sicily) which experienced the co-occurrence of high exploitation and decrease of eutrophic conditions during the eighties and early nineties. Comparison of size structure showed significant differences between length frequency distributions of 1970-75s and 2002-2005, being the latter formed by smaller size green ormer.
Understanding the microbial biogeography of ancient human dentitions to guide study design and interpretation
2021
AbstractThe oral cavity is a heterogeneous environment, varying in factors such as pH, oxygen levels, and salivary flow. These factors affect the microbial community composition and distribution of species in dental plaque, but it is not known how well these patterns are reflected in archaeological dental calculus. In most archaeological studies, a single sample of dental calculus is studied per individual and is assumed to represent the entire oral cavity. However, it is not known if this sampling strategy introduces biases into studies of the ancient oral microbiome. Here, we present the results of a shotgun metagenomic study of a dense sampling of dental calculus from four Chalcolithic i…

The Spatial Overlap of Police Calls Reporting Street-Level and Behind-Closed-Doors Crime: A Bayesian Modeling Approach
2021
Traditionally, intimate-partner violence has been considered a special type of crime that occurs behind closed doors, with different characteristics from street-level crime. The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial overlap of police calls reporting street-level and behind-closed-doors crime. We analyzed geocoded police calls in the 552 census-block groups of the city of Valencia, Spain, related to street-level crime (N = 26,624) and to intimate-partner violence against women (N = 11,673). A Bayesian joint model was run to analyze the spatial overlap. In addition, two Bayesian hierarchical models controlled for different neighborhood characteristics to analyze the relative risks. Resu…
The effect of defect location on coating fragmentation patterns under biaxial tension
2005
Fragmentation of a coating possessing orthogonal preferential crack propagation directions is modeled for equibiaxial tensile loading. Two plausible cracking scenarios are compared, caused by flaws randomly distributed over the area of the coating or along the coating fragment edges. The two fragmentation scenarios considered are shown to yield qualitatively different fragment patterns.
Ancora in tema di IRAP sugli esercenti arti e professioni
2009
