Mathematical modelling of greenhouse gas emissions from membrane bioreactors: A comprehensive comparison of two mathematical models.
2018
Abstract This paper compares two mathematical models (Model I and Model II) to predict greenhouse gases emission from a University Cape Town (UCT) – membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant. Model I considers N 2 O production only during denitrification. Model II takes into account the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) formation pathways for N 2 O. Both models were calibrated adopting real data. Model comparison was performed in terms of (i) sensitivity analysis (ii) best fit and (iii) model prediction uncertainty. On average 6% of factors of Model I and 9% of Model II resulted to be important. In terms of best fit, Model II had a better capability of reproducing the measured data. The average effici…
Comparison of Two Mathematical Models for Greenhouse Gas Emission from Membrane Bioreactors
2017
In this study two mathematical models (Model I and Model II), able to predict the nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission from an University Cape Town (UCT) – membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant, have been compared. Model I considers the N2O production only during the denitrification. Model II takes into account the two ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) formation pathways for N2O. Both models were calibrated adopting real data. Results highlight that Model II had a better capability of reproducing the measured data especially in terms of N2O model outputs. Indeed, the average efficiency related to the N2O model outputs was equal to 0.3 and 0.38 for Model I and Model II respectively.

Acetazolamide-M(II) [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)] complexes with ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, and potassium hidroxide
1991
Abstract Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) with dideprotonated Acm are synthesized and characterized. Acm acts as bidentate ligand through the N-sulfonamido atom and the N-thiadiazole atom except for K6CoAcm4·6H2O in which Acm behaves as monodentate through the N-sulfonamido atom.
Linking content and technology: on the geography of innovation networks in the Bergen media cluster
2017
This paper deals with the geography of innovation networks and analyses combinatorial knowledge dynamics from a single cluster perspective. Addressing firms in the media cluster in Bergen, Norway, we examine how and from where companies acquire and combine different types of knowledge for their innovation activities. The empirical analysis, which is based on structured interviews with 22 media companies, identifies two main types of cluster firms: media content providers that rely heavily on symbolic knowledge and media technology providers that draw mostly on synthetic knowledge. Even though they draw on different knowledge bases, the two types of firms are strongly interlinked in their in…
Automated trace enrichment for screening and/or determination of primary, secondary and tertiary amphetamines in biological samples by liquid chromat…
1999
A rapid and simple liquid chromatographic method for the automated determination of amphetamines in biological fluids was developed. The proposed procedure is based on the injection of 250 microL of sample into a 20 x 2.1 mm id precolumn (packed with a 30 microns Hypersil C18 stationary phase) for enrichment and purification of the analytes. Next, the analytes are transferred to a 5 microns LiChrospher 100 RP18, 125 x 4 mm id analytical column for their separation under reversed-phase conditions. Water was used to eliminate the matrix components from the precolumn and a 0.2 M phosphate buffer (pH 3) containing 2% triethylamine was the mobile phase for the resolution of the amphetamines. The…
Health care systems of developed non-U.S. nations: strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for the United States--observations from internationall…
2010
The purpose of this article is to survey imaging experts from developed nations on their impression of their own health care system and recommendations for the U.S. health care system as it seeks to enact health care reform.A survey was sent to individual imaging experts from developed nations requesting information on their health care systems (type of system, strengths, and weaknesses) and their recommendations for the United States.Eighteen respondents from 17 developed nations completed the survey. All respondents reported universal health care coverage: four with government-operated health care, one with mixed government and private insurance-operated health care, 10 with predominantly…
Deprotonation of resorcinarenes by mono- and diamine bases: complexation and intermolecular interactions in the solid state
2014
The deprotonation of resorcinarenes by mono- and dibasic amines, viz. triethylamine (TEA) and its dibasic analogue, N,N′-dimethylpiperazine (DMPip), was studied and the resulting supramolecular complexes were analysed in the solid state, in solution and in the gas phase. In the solid state, 1:1 (2TEAH+·(ethyl-resorcinarene)2−·MeOH), 3:2 [DMPip·2DMPipH+·2(ethyl-resorcinarene−)] and 3:2 [2DMPip·DMPipH22+@(2methyl-ethyl-resorcinarene−)2·2MeOH] solid state complexes and interesting resorcinarene−⋯resorcinarene− supramolecular networks formed via enhanced hydrogen bonds involving the hydroxyl groups and the deprotonated hydroxyl groups of the resorcinarenes were observed. The host–guest complexe…
