A longitudinal study on the information needs and preferences of patients after an acute coronary syndrome.
2016
Background Research has shown that the provision of pertinent health information to patients with cardiovascular disease is associated with better adherence to medical prescriptions, behavioral changes, and enhanced perception of control over the disease. Yet there is no clear knowledge on how to improve information pertinence. Identifying and meeting the information needs of patients and their preferences for sources of information is pivotal to developing patient-led services. This prospective, observational study was aimed at exploring the information needs and perceived relevance of different information sources for patients during the twenty-four months following an acute coronary synd…
Association of food insecurity with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in adults aged ≥50 years from low- and middle-income countries
2022
Background-\ud \ud The aim of the present study was to investigate associations between food insecurity with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in adults aged ≥50 years from six low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).\ud \ud Methods-\ud \ud Cross-sectional, community-based data from the World Health Organisation's Study on Global Aging and Adult Health were analyzed. Self-reported information on past 12-month suicidal ideation and suicide attempts was collected. Past 12-month food insecurity was assessed with two questions on frequency of eating less and hunger due to lack of food. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess the association between food insecuri…
Fruit and Vegetable Intake and Non-Communicable Diseases among Adults Aged ≥50 Years in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.
2022
Abstract Objectives The relationship between consuming ≥2 servings of fruits and ≥3 servings of vegetables a day, which has been identified as optimal for health (i.e., adequate fruit/vegetable consumption), and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is largely unknown. Therefore, using data from six LMICs, we investigated the independent association between inadequate fruit/vegetable consumption and 12 NCDs, and estimated the prevalence of inadequate fruit/vegetable consumption among people with NCDs. Design and Setting Cross-sectional, nationally representative data from the WHO Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) were analyzed. Participant…
Long-Term Clinical Outcomes According to Previous Manifestations of Atherosclerotic Disease (from the FAST-MI 2010 Registry)
2017
IF 3.398; International audience; The prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has notably improved in the past 20 years. Using the French Registry of ST-Elevation and Non-ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction (FAST-MI) 2010 registry, we investigated whether previous manifestations of atherosclerotic disease (i.e., previous MI, or a history of any form of atherosclerotic disease) are at truly increased risk compared with those in whom AMI is the first manifestation of the disease. FAST-MI 2010 is a nationwide French registry including 3,079 patients with AMI, among whom 1,062 patients had a history of cardiovascular atherosclerotic disease and 498 patients had a history of …
Cardiac rehabilitation and 5-year mortality after acute coronary syndromes: The 2005 French FAST-MI study.
2016
IF 2.271; International audience; Background. - Clinical studies have shown a beneficial effect of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) on mortality.Objective. - To study the effect of CR prescription at discharge on 5-year mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).Methods. - Participants, from the 2005 French FAST-MI hospital registry, were 2894 survivors at discharge, divided according to AMI type: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI; n=1523) and non-STEMI (NSTEMI; n=1371). The effect of CR prescription on mortality was analysed using a Cox proportional hazards model.Results. - At discharge, 22.1% of patients had a CR prescription. Patients referred to CR were youn…
Endovascular Stroke Treatment and Risk of Intracranial Hemorrhage in Anticoagulated Patients
2020
Background and Purpose— We aimed to determine the safety and mortality after mechanical thrombectomy in patients taking vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) or direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). Methods— In a multicenter observational cohort study, we used multiple logistic regression analysis to evaluate associations of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) with VKA or DOAC prescription before thrombectomy as compared with no anticoagulation. The primary outcomes were the rate of sICH and all-cause mortality at 90 days, incorporating sensitivity analysis regarding confirmed therapeutic anticoagulation. Additionally, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature on this to…
Trends in congenital anomalies in Europe from 1980 to 2012
2018
Background Surveillance of congenital anomalies is important to identify potential teratogens. Methods This study analysed the prevalence of 61 congenital anomaly subgroups (excluding chromosomal) in 25 population-based EUROCAT registries (1980–2012). Live births, fetal deaths and terminations of pregnancy for fetal anomaly were analysed with multilevel random-effects Poisson regression models. Results Seventeen anomaly subgroups had statistically significant trends from 2003±2012; 12 increasing and 5 decreasing. Conclusions The annual increasing prevalence of severe congenital heart defects, single ventricle, atrioventricular septal defects and tetralogy of Fallot of 1.4% (95% CI: 0.7% to …
Parenting Mechanisms in Links Between Parents’ and Adolescents’ Alcohol Use Behaviors
2007
Background: Adolescence has been identified as a critical period with regard to the initiation and early escalation of alcohol use. Moreover, research on familial risk and protective processes provides independent support for multiple domains of parental influence on adolescent drinking; including parents' own drinking behaviors, as well as the practices they employ to socialize their children. Despite this prevalence of findings, whether and how these distinct associations are related to one another is still not entirely clear. Methods: The present study used data from 4,731 adolescents and their parents to test the nature of associations between (a) parents' frequencies of alcohol use and…
Management of coronary artery disease patients in Latvia compared with practice in Central-Eastern Europe and globally: Analysis of the CLARIFY regis…
2015
Background and objective: Management of outpatients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) is important in secondary prevention. The objective was to describe differences in the characteristics of CAD patients in Latvia compared with other countries. Materials and methods: CLARIFY is an ongoing international, prospective, observational, longitudinal registry of outpatients with CAD. Data regarding treated outpatients with established CAD from the CLARIFY registry in Latvia (n = 120) were compared with those from the rest of Central-Eastern Europe (CEE) (n = 2888) and worldwide (n = 33,163). Results: Patients in Latvia had a larger waist circumference (101 [95–109] vs. 99 [91–106] in CEE,…
