Atomic Transitions and Population Control by Laser Frequency Scanning Speed and Magnetic Field
2022
In this thesis the influence of laser radiation and external uniform magnetic field on alkali-metal atomic vapor is studied. We focused on three topics. In the first part, we examined atomic population control in an M-type system to demonstrate that such systems can serve as universal three-bit logical devices. The second part concerns an experiment of atomic spectroscopy. From the fluorescence spectra recorded for stationary, transient and non-stationary interaction regimes, we were able to extract important parameter values which are the relaxation rate of the lower energy levels to the equilibrium isotropic state, the diffusion coefficient in a buffered vapor cell, and the corresponding …
Speed-dependent line profile: A test of a unified model from the Doppler to the collisional regime for molecule-molecule collisions
2000
International audience; A speed-dependent line profile combining soft and hard fully correlated Dicke-narrowing collisions was recently successfully tested on Ar-broadened H-2 spectra in a wide density and temperature range. A further test for mixtures of H-2 in nitrogen molecules (instead of Ar atoms) is presented. This test is also based on high resolution Raman investigation of the isotropic Q(1) line of H-2 from low to high density at various temperatures. The same consistency of the speed-dependent line profile as for H-2-Ar is obtained for H-2-N-2 through a remarkable agreement with all the data by using a unique set of four parameters (the collisional width and shift, the kinetic fre…
Selective reflection spectroscopy of alkali vapors confined in nanocells and emerging sensing applications
2019
This thesis is aimed at studying the resonant interaction of a laser radiation with an atomic alkali vapor layer of wavelength-scale thickness confined in an optical nanocell; and emerging sensing applications. We focus our attention on the selective reflection arising at the interface between a dielectric window and a resonant alkali vapor, and show that the derivative of selective reflection spectra exhibit narrow resonances whose maxima are located exactly at atomic resonance frequencies. These resonances are observed with a spectral linewidth up to fifteen times smaller than the Doppler linewidth of the medium and their amplitudes scale linearly with respect to the transitions ones. Owin…
Etude des effets collisionnels dans les molécules tétraédriques. Applications au méthane perturbé par l'argon
1996
This thesis is devoted to the study of relaxational and collisional line-broadening processes in the first vibrational polyads of tetrahedral molecules. In a first part, the particular internal dynamics of such molecules is discussed. The second chapter reviews the literature on phenomena induced by intermolecular interactions involving this type of molecules. More theoretical aspects are developed in the second part. The so-called tetrahedral tensorial formalism adapted to the construction of Hamiltonians and transition moments of tetrahedral molecules is described. Main features of the infrared line-shapes theories and of semi-classical line-broadening and line-shifting calculations are a…
Measuring ‘indirect’ investments in ICT in OECD countries
2019
International audience; ICT components, such as microprocessors, may be embodied in other capital goods not recorded as ICT in National Accounts. We name ‘indirect ICT investment’ the value of embodied ICT components in non-ICT investment. The paper provides estimates of ‘indirect ICT investment’ based on detailed and unpublished Supply-Use tables (SUT) in 12 OECD countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Our main finding is that ICT investment appears significantly higher when considering its indirect component, the average increase being about 35%. The inclusion of i…

Développement postnatal et évolution du complexe craniofacial chezles rongeurs
2022
Understanding developmental mechanisms in evolution is crucial to apprehend the diversification of organismal forms. In mammals, changes occur during all development phases (prenatal and postnatal). Postnatal growth plays an essential role in the acquisition of the adult shape. During this period, the craniofacial complex undergoes many changes in functional constraint forcing the different tissue to accommodate while adjusting, along the growth and at the adult stage, to a certain level of functional performance. These different developmental interactions respond to several influencing factors such as molecular, genetic and cellular processes but also the environment. The latter will play …
Towards human exploration of space: the THESEUS review series on cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal research priorities
2016
International audience; The THESEUS project (Towards Human Exploration of Space: aEUropean Strategy) was initiated within the seventh FrameworkProgramme by the European Commission. This project aimed toprovide a cross-cutting, life science-based roadmap for Europe’sstrategy towards human exploration of space, especially for deepspace missions and its relevance to applications on Earth. Toaddress these challenges, relevance of space research on thecardiovascular system, the lungs and kidneys, was discussed in anexpert group and its principal conclusions will be presented in thisarticle.

Treated wastewaters discharged from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) and livestock effluents are the main sources of contamination of aquatic environments and of agricultural soils by human and animal fecal micro-organisms. Contaminated waters, especially bathing waters, may present a sanitary risk for humans if the concentrations of fecal micro-organisms are high, thus indicating the potential presence of pathogenic and/or antibiotic resistant strains. Soils and crops also can be contaminated by these micro-organisms when treated wastewaters are used to irrigate cultivated soils. Consequently, microbiological quality controls are mandatory for bathing waters and treated wastewaters to ma…
The Medicago truncatula hypermycorrhizal B9 mutant displays an altered response to phosphate and is more susceptible to Aphanomyces euteiches.
2014
SPE IPM; National audience; Inorganic phosphate (Pi) plays a key role in the development of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis, which is favoured when Pi is limiting in the environment. We have characterized the Medicago truncatula hypermycorrhizal B9 mutant for its response to limiting (P/10) and replete (P2) Pi. On P2, mycorrhization was significantly higher in B9 plants than in wild-type (WT). The B9 mutant displayed hallmarks of Pi-limited plants, including higher levels of anthocyanins and lower concentrations of Pi in shoots than WT plants. Transcriptome analyses of roots of WT and B9 plants cultivated on P2 or on P/10 confirmed the Pi-limited profile of the mutant on P2 and highli…
