Abstract The glass cutting problem proposed for the ROADEF 2018 challenge is a two-dimensional, three-stage guillotine cutting process, with an additional cut to obtain pieces in some specific situations. However, it is not a standard problem because it includes specific constraints. The sheets produced in the glass manufacturing process have defects that make them different and have to be used in order. A practical method for barcoding and size-trimming PCR templates for amplicon sequencing

Sample barcoding facilitates the analysis of tens or even hundreds of samples in a single next-generation sequencing (NGS) run, but more efficient methods are needed for high-throughput barcoding and size-trimming of long PCR products. Here we present a two-step PCR approach for barcoding followed by pool shearing, adapter ligation, and 5′ end selection for trimming sets of DNA templates of any size. Our new trimming method offers clear benefits for phylogenetic studies, since targeting exactly the same region maximizes the alignment and enables the use of operational taxonomic unit (OTU)-based algorithms.

Chalcogenide thin films for direct resistors fabrication and trimming

Abstract The fabrication of thin film resistors based on Ge–Sb–Te chalcogenide alloys is proposed. By exploiting the phase change properties of the deposited film, a laser beam is used for inducing a transition from high to low resistivity along selected paths. Conductivity changes as high as four orders of magnitude can be routinely achieved. This candidates the technique for maskless fabrication of compact precision resistors for a variety of applications.
Laboratory mix design of asphalt mixture containing reclaimed material

This paper presents a study on the production of asphalt test specimens in the laboratory containing reclaimed asphalt. The mixtures considered were stone mastic asphalt concrete mixtures containing up to 30% of reclaimed asphalt. Specimens were compacted to the reference density obtained from the Marshall mix design. Gyration compaction method was used for preparing specimens for the experimental programme, while coring and cutting methods and X-ray computed tomography (CT) were used to investigate the change in properties within the specimens and to validate the selected methodology. This paper presents a laboratory investigation aimed at establishing a protocol for the production of homogeneous asphalt mixtures test specimens, incorporating reclaimed asphalt by using a gyratory compactor with coring and trimming works. Stone mastic asphalt specimens were compacted at the previously identified target densities with the final aim of obtaining specimens with a fixed and homogeneous air void distribution. This paper reviews cultural practices to improve fruit quality in table grape during vegetative and reproductive seasons. Summer pruning in table grape (Vitis vinifera L.) has more effects than winter pruning, above all with regard to plant productivity and final number of bunches for harvesting. Thinning is one of the most cultural technique and it consists in the elimination of vegetative or reproductive organs in excess. Other summer canopy management techniques include leaf removal, fruit shoots positioning, shoot trimming and girdling.
