The cytotoxic evaluation of mineral trioxide aggregate and bioaggregate in the subcutaneous connective tissue of rats

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the cytotoxic effects of ProRoot MTA and DiaRoot BA, a bioceramic nanoparticulate cement, on subcutaneous rat tissue. Study D esign: Fifty Sprouge Dawley rats were used in this study. Polyethylene tubes filled with ProRoot MTA and DiaRoot BioAggregate, along with a control group of empty, were implanted into dorsal connective tissue of rats for 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days. After estimated time intervals the rats were sacrificed. The specimens were fixed, stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and then evaluated under a light microscope for inflammatory reactions and mineralization. Comparison of two histopathologic methods for evaluating subcutaneous reaction to mineral trioxide aggregate

Objectives: One of the most important factors for suitable materials for pulp therapy is biocompatibility. Two histopathologic methods of Cox and Federation Dentaire International (FDI) were used to evaluate inflammation. In Cox method, density of inflammatory cells, tissue reactions like fibrosis, vascular responses like congestion and fibrin extravasation have been used to evaluate inflammatory reactions. Tamibarotene in patients with acute promyelocytic leukaemia relapsing after treatment with all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide

Treatment of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) with arsenic trioxide (ATO) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) is highly effective first-line therapy, although approximately 5-10% of patients relapse. Tamibarotene is a synthetic retinoid with activity in APL patients who relapse after chemotherapy and ATRA, but has not been studied in relapse after treatment with ATO and ATRA. We report on a phase II study of tamibarotene in adult patients with relapsed or refractory APL after treatment with ATRA and ATO (n = 14). Disorder-induced Raman scattering in rhenium trioxide (ReO3)

Raman scattering in cubic metallic perovskite (ReO3) was studied at room temperature for well-crystallized monolith, polycrystalline powder and thin film samples. Defect-induced first-order Raman scattering was detected from the sub-surface region, given by the penetration depth of a 633 nm laser, and its origin was explained on the basis of a rigid-ion vibrational model for bulk ReO3. A quenching of the Raman intensity was observed in crystalline monolithic ReO3 upon increasing the temperature up to 250 °C and was related to crystal surface reconstruction/annealing.

Reverse Monte Carlo modeling of thermal disorder in crystalline materials from EXAFS spectra

Abstract In this work we present the Reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) modeling scheme, designed to probe the local structural and thermal disorder in crystalline materials by fitting the wavelet transform (WT) of the EXAFS signal. Application of the method to the analysis of the Ge K-edge and Re L3-edge EXAFS signals in crystalline germanium and rhenium trioxide, respectively, is presented with special attention to the problem of thermal disorder and related phenomena.

Metallophthalocyanines as optical active dopants in borate glass

Abstract B2O3 – phthalocyanine composites (B2O3@MPc) were synthesized at 410 °C by sintering boron trioxide doped with base metal-free phthalocyanine (H2Pc) and/or its complexes of Mg, Zn, Gd (Pc = C32H16N8, phthalocyanine ligand, M = metal ion). The glassy products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM, EDS) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) which confirmed the incorporation of the respective phthalocyanines into the amorphous borate matrix. FTIR results suggested a possible impact of the phthalocyanine dopants on the final solid structure of the glassy matrix. Facet-Independent Electric-Field-Induced Volume Metallization of Tungsten Trioxide Films.

2015

Reversible metallization of band and Mott insulators by ionic-liquid gating is accompanied by significant structural changes. A change in conductivity of seven orders of magnitude at room temperature is found in epitaxial films of WO3 with an associated monoclinic-to-cubic structural reorganization. The migration of oxygen ions along open volume channels is the underlying mechanism.

FIRST-PRINCIPLES LCAO CALCULATIONS ON 5D TRANSITION METAL OXIDES: ELECTRONIC AND PHONON PROPERTIES

ABSTRACT First-principles quantum chemistry calculations within the periodic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) formalism have been used to probe electronic and phonon properties of crystalline 5d transition metal oxides ReO3, ZnWO4 and CaWO4. The obtained equilibrium crystal structure is in good agreement with known crystallographic data. Rhenium trioxide is correctly predicted to be a metal, whereas both tungstates—a wide gap insulating compounds. The phonon frequencies, calculated by the frozen phonon method, agree rather well with those obtained by infrared and Raman spectroscopies.
