Growth, Structure, and Stability of KxWO3 Nanorods on Mica Substrate

2012

International audience; KxWO3 nanorods, interesting as gas sensors, were elaborated on mica muscovite substrate and characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and mainly transmission electron microscopy. A combination of structural analyses allowed determining the morphology of these rods, and selected area electron diffraction experiments pointed out the simultaneous presence of the exotic hexagonal and stable monoclinic phases. Moreover, the presence of potassium inside the nanorods, coming from the mica substrate, was revealed. By combining all the observations, a growth model is proposed, consisting of the stacking of two di…

Confocal spectromicroscopy of amorphous and nanocrystalline tungsten oxide films

2007

A Raman confocal spectromicroscopic system was used to study in situ phase composition and surface morphology in amorphous and nanocrystalline tungsten oxide and tungstate thin films, prepared on silicon and glass substrates by dc magnetron co-sputtering technique. The possible use of these films for the phase-change optical recording was demonstrated using 442 nm He–Cd laser with a variable power of up to 50 mW. The formation of nanocrystalline tungsten trioxide or tungstate phases was observed under the laser irradiation. These nanocrystalline phases show relatively strong Raman activity, which can be used for information reading purposes. A multilayer structure composed of several tungst…

Endodontic management of type II dens invaginatus with open apex and large periradicular lesion using the XP-endo Finisher : a case report

2018

Dens invaginatus (DI) represents an endodontic challenge because of its complex root canal morphology. This case report presents the clinical management of a 22-year-old woman with type II DI in right maxillary lateral incisor with a painful swelling. Pulp testing revealed no response with the tooth. Type II DI with open apex and large periradicular lesion was seen on radiograph. The treatment was planned by using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. Canal treatment was completed in two appointments with the aid of a dental operating microscope. In the first appointment, the internal anatomy was modified using an ultrasonic tip, and chemo-mechanical preparation was performed using …

Factors Determining Sensitivity and Resistance of Tumor Cells to Arsenic Trioxide

2012

Previously, arsenic trioxide showed impressive regression rates of acute promyelocytic leukemia. Here, we investigated molecular determinants of sensitivity and resistance of cell lines of different tumor types towards arsenic trioxide. Arsenic trioxide was the most cytotoxic compound among 8 arsenicals investigated in the NCI cell line panel. We correlated transcriptome-wide microarray-based mRNA expression to the IC(50) values for arsenic trioxide by bioinformatic approaches (COMPARE and hierarchical cluster analyses, Ingenuity signaling pathway analysis). Among the identified pathways were signaling routes for p53, integrin-linked kinase, and actin cytoskeleton. Genes from these pathways…

Traditional endodontic surgery versus modern technique: a 5-year controlled clinical trial.

2014

In this study, we compared outcomes of traditional apicoectomy versus modern apicoectomy, by means of a controlled clinical trial with a 5-year follow-up. The study investigated 938 teeth in 843 patients. On the basis of the procedure performed, the teeth were grouped in 3 groups. Differences between the groups were the method of osteotomy (type of instruments used), type of preparation of retrograde cavity (different apicoectomy angles and instruments used for root-end preparation), and root-end filling material used (gray mineral trioxide aggregate or silver amalgam). Outcome (tooth healing) was estimated after 1 and 5 years, postoperatively. Clinical success rates after 1 year were 67% (…

Osseous reaction to implantation of two endodontic cements : mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium enriched mixture (CEM)

2012

Aim: The aim of the present in vivo study was to determine bone tissue reaction to calcium enriched mixture (CEM) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) using a rat femur model. Study Design: Sixty-three rats were selected and randomly divided into three groups of 21 each [experimental groups (n=15), control (n=6)]. Implantation cavities were prepared in each femoral bone and randomly filled with the biomaterials only in the experimental groups. The animals in three groups were sacrificed 1, 4, and 8 weeks postoperatively. Histologic evaluations comprising inflammation severity and new bone formation were blindly made on H&E-stained decalcified 6-µm sections. Results: At 1, 4, and 8 weeks aft…

Biocompatibility of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate with TiO2 Nanoparticles on Human Gingival Fibroblasts

2016

Background The New compositions of white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) or use of various additives like nanoparticles might affect MTA’s ideal characteristics This study was performed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of WMTA and WMTA with Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (1% weight ratio) at different storage times after mixing on human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs). Material and Methods HGFs were obtained from the attached gingiva of human premolars. HGFs were cultured in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle medium, supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum, penicillin and streptomycin. The cells were exposed to WMTA (groups 1 and 2) and WMTA+TiO2 (groups 3 and 4). The fifth and sixth groups served a…

Biocompatibility of three new calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers on human periodontal ligament stem cells.

2016

Aim To evaluate the biocompatibility of three calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers, Bioroot BC Sealer (Septodont, Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France), Endoseal MTA (EndoSeal, Maruchi, Seoul, Korea) and Nano-ceramic Sealer (B&L Biotech, Fairfax, VA, USA) (NCS), on human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs). Methodology Human periodontal ligament stem cells were cultured in the presence of various endodontic sealer eluates for 24 h. Cell viability was determined using the MTT assay. Cell death and changes in phenotype induced by the set endodontic sealer eluates were evaluated through flow cytometry. Also, an in vitro scratch wound-healing model was used to determine their effects in cel…

Periapical Microsurgery with an Endoscope and Microscope of Two Upper Central Incisors Already Subjected to Periapical Surgery 25 Years Ago

2020

Introduction. The present clinical case describes periapical microsurgery with an endoscope and microscope in a patient already treated 25 years ago due to persistent periapical disease of the two central upper incisors, restored with poorly adapted crowns. Clinical Case. The first periapical surgery had been performed with silver amalgam as a retrograde filler material, causing grayish staining of the buccal mucosa. Periapical surgery was performed raising a submarginal flap with ostectomy and apicoectomy, retrograde cavity preparation with ultrasound tips, and filling with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). After soft tissue healing and complete bone regeneration of the lesion, retreatment…
