A chiral capillary monolithic column for enantiomer separation in capillary electrochromatography was prepared by coating cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) on porous glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate monolith in capillary format grafted with chains of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride. IP 3 signalling regulates exogenous RNA i in C aenorhabditis elegans

RNA interference (RNAi) is a widespread and widely exploited phenomenon. Here, we show that changing inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) signalling alters RNAi sensitivity in Caenorhabditis elegans. Reducing IP3 signalling enhances sensitivity to RNAi in a broad range of genes and tissues. Conversely up-regulating IP3 signalling decreases sensitivity. Tissue-specific rescue experiments suggest IP3 functions in the intestine. We also exploit IP3 signalling mutants to further enhance the sensitivity of RNAi hypersensitive strains. Insect oviposition induces volatile emission in herbaceous plants that attracts egg parasitoid

SUMMARYThe egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston) (Hymenoptera:Scelionidae) responded to synomones emitted by leguminous plants induced by feeding and oviposition activity of the bug Nezara viridula (L.)(Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). This was shown by laboratory bioassays using a Y-tube olfactometer. Broad bean leaves (Vicia faba L.) damaged by feeding activity of N. viridula and on which host egg mass had been laid produced synomones that attracted T. basalis. By contrast,undamaged leaves or feeding-damaged leaves without eggs did not attract wasp females. The work describes anatomical analysis of the wood from a relict Pinus sylvestris L. performed to determine its characteristics. Transverse ca. 20 μm thick sections were prepared with a core-microtome and observed in bright-field microscopy. Observations of tangential sections were performed in epi-fluorescence. The xylem of the relict pine showed many narrow growth rings. The occurrence of i.a. discontinuous tree rings, light rings and intraannual density fluctuations was stated. Field studies on egg parasitoid guilds of herbivore stink bugs, serious pests for a wide number of crops, have shown that Trissolcus spp. and Ooencyrtus spp. can naturally co-occur in the same host, and generally the former parasitize more eggs than the latter. In many countries, to control such pests, biological control programs based on egg parasitoids have been used obtaining inconstantly success. This study examines the construction of ethnicity in the permanent exhibitions of two museums: Siida, the National Museum of the Finnish Sámi and the Nature Centre of Metsähallitus, and Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sámi Museum. The study is motivated by three research questions: What kind of ethnic categories and boundaries do the exhibitions create? How is Sámi ethnicity defined by displaying cultural features? How do the exhibitions depict relationships between the Sámi and other ethnicities, governmental power, the ‘Sámi area’, and nature? Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 35 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 17 attēlus, 4 tabulas, 41 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Pētījuma mērķis bija izvērtēt kalibrēšanas stimula un skatīšanās attāluma ietekmi uz skata virziena parametriem, izmantojot EyeLink 1000 Plus acu kustību pierakstīšanas iekārtu. Pētījumā piedalījās divpadsmit dalībnieki, vecumā no 19 līdz 32 gadiem. Viņu uzdevums bija skatīties uz ekrānu, un ar acīm sekot līdzi stimulam, kas parādījās dažādās ekrāna vietās. Tika izmantoti četru veidu stimuli, kuri tika demonstrēti piecās pozīcijās uz ekrāna trijos skatīšanās attālumos. Slodzes izraisītās kardiorespiratoro parametru disproporcionālās izmaiņas

Darbā tika pētīts, kā slodzes ietekmē mainās kardiorespiratorie parametri un vai tie ir atkarīgi no pētījumā iesaistīto personu sporta veida. Darba mērķis bija izvērtēt slodzes izsauktu kardiorespiratoro funkciju raksturojošo parametru neproporcionālās adaptīvās izmaiņas. Pētījumā piedalījās 20 personas – 9 vīriešu dzimuma basketbolisti, 8 vīriešu dzimuma orientieristi, 3 vīriešu dzimuma volejbolisti. Personas veica veloergometriskas slodzes testu. Basketbolistu tests sastāvēja no 7 minūšu iesildīšanās, veicot 50W lielu slodzi, pakāpeniski pieaugošas veloergometriskas slodzes testa līdz atteicei un 5 minūšu atsildīšanās, veicot 50W lielu slodzi.
