A visible-light photoredox functionalization of 3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-2-ones through a Friedel-Crafts reaction with indoles using an inexpensive organophotoredox catalyst is described. The reaction uses a dual catalytic system that is formed by a photocatalyst simple and cheap, 9,10-phenanthrenedione, and a Lewis acid, Zn(OTf)2. 5W white LEDs are used as visible-light source and oxygen from air as a terminal oxidant, obtaining the corresponding products with good yields. The reaction can be extended to other electron-rich arenes. International audience; Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica produced flavour compounds when infecting endives (Cichorium intybus). These compounds were identified as esters and branched-chain alcohols.They were produced from amino acids and some of them such as methionol, methionol acetate, isobutanol, isobutyl acetate, beta-phenyl ethanol and tryptophol were produced with good yields.

Es wird die pharmakologische Prufung von 1-(Dialkylaminomethyl)-tryptamin- und -tryptophol-Derivaten sowie von 2-(Piperidinomethyl)-tryptophol-Derivaten beschrieben. Die wirksamste Verbindung dieser Reihe ist das 1-(Piperidinomethyl)-benzoyltryptopholmethojodid, das am mit Doryl® stimulierten Ileum der Ratte etwa 4mal starker wirkt als Scopolamin-n-butylbromid (Buscopan®) und am mit Histamin stimulierten Ileum des Meerschweinchens gute Antihistamineigenschaften aufweist. The indoles serotonin (SER), melatonin (MEL), 5-methoxytryptophol (5-MTL) and 5-hydroxytryptophol (5-HTL) were administered during daytime microelectrophoretically to 240 cells in the pineal gland of the guniea-pig. The action of SER and 5-HTL was predominantly depressant on the electrical activity, MEL and 5-MTL caused an excitation in most of the units. Although MEL and 5-MTL caused fairly similar reactions on average, they appear to act on different cells. Aims: This study compared two new methods for direct determination of 5-hydroxytryptophol glucuronide (GTOL) in urine, a biomarker for detection of recent alcohol consumption. Methods: Urine samples were collected from ten alcoholic patients during recovery from intoxication. A direct injection ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for measurement of the urinary GTOL to 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) ratio, and an ELISA assay for direct measurement of GTOL, were used.
