Aquaculture in Sicily: the state of the art

2009

Aquaculture in Sicily, represented almost exclusively by seabass and sea bream production, together with capture fishery, plays a significant role in the regional economy. On a national basis, the regional production covers about 20% of Italian euryha- line fish production. Fingerling supply is guaranteed by the two hatcheries present on the Island. Twelve floating cage farms and two inshore farms annually produce about 4,000 t of fish. A small extensive production arises from the storage basins of the salt work of Trapani. This niche production could represent an opportunity to realize a new distinctive organic aquaculture, preferred by the consumers respect to intensive produced fish, tha…

Measurements of Collisional Line Widths in the Stimulated Raman Q-Branch of the v1 Band of Silane

1990

0377-0486; Self-broadened widths of 28SiH4 in the v1 Q-branch have been measured at room temperature (295 K) using high-resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy. These collisional widths have been obtained by fitting a superposition of Voigt profiles to the experimental spectra in the pressure range 28-154 Torr. No evidence for line mixing within the tetrahedral components of a Q(J) line has been found. The line broadening coefficients for J up to 13 depend weakly on the rotational quantum number. The mean value is 103.7 x 10(-3) cm-1 atm-1.

Shedding Light on Graphene Quantum Dots: Key Synthetic Strategies, Characterization Tools, and Cutting-Edge Applications

2021

During the last 20 years, the scientific community has shown growing interest towards carbonaceous nanomaterials due to their appealing mechanical, thermal, and optical features, depending on the specific nanoforms. Among these, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) recently emerged as one of the most promising nanomaterials due to their outstanding electrical properties, chemical stability, and intense and tunable photoluminescence, as it is witnessed by a booming number of reported applications, ranging from the biological field to the photovoltaic market. To date, a plethora of synthetic protocols have been investigated to modulate the portfolio of features that GQDs possess and to facilitate the…

Photoluminescence Enhancement by Band Alignment Engineering in MoS 2 /FePS 3 van der Waals Heterostructures

2022

Single-layer semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (2H-TMDs) display robust excitonic photoluminescence emission, which can be improved by controlled changes to the environment and the chemical potential of the material. However, a drastic emission quench has been generally observed when TMDs are stacked in van der Waals heterostructures, which often favor the nonradiative recombination of photocarriers. Herein, we achieve an enhancement of the photoluminescence of single-layer MoS2 on top of van der Waals FePS3. The optimal energy band alignment of this heterostructure preserves light emission of MoS2 against nonradiative interlayer recombination processes and favors the charge t…

Real-time measurements of Volcanic Gases based by Infrared Spectroscopy

2014

Near-infrared Tunable Diode Lasers have recently found increased usage in atmospheric chemistry and air monitoring research, but applications in Volcanology are still limited to a few examples. The Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy technique (TDLS) relies on measuring the absorbance at specific wavelengths due to the absorption of IR radiation by a target gas. Here, we report on the application of the GasFinder 2.0, a commercial infrared laser-receiver unit operating in the 1.3-1.7 m wavelength range, to measuring CO2 concentrations and fluxes in volcanic gas emissions. Our field tests were conducted at Campi Flegrei volcano (near Pozzuoli, Southern Italy), where the GasFinder was used (duri…
