An analytical model of a new packet marking algorithm for TCP flows: Preliminary insights

2004

In differentiated services networks, packet marking schemes can be devised to differentiate packets belonging to a same TCP flow, with the goal of improving the experienced performance. This paper presents an analytical model for an adaptive packet marking scheme proposed in our previous work. The model combines three specific sub-models aimed at describing i) the TCP sources aggregate ii) the marker, and iii) the network status. Some preliminary simulative results seem to validate the model.

Survey data on the consequences of COVID-19 and home confinement on the educational community and families in Spain

2021

[EN] This paper presents a dataset concerning the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and home confinement on the educational community and families, and the possibilities and opportunities for the return to schools. Data were collected through an online based cross-sectional survey between June 29, 2020 and July 12, 2020 in Spain. A total of 7,305 people who had children in their care during the COVID-19 crisis and the home-confinement period responded to the survey. The survey contained items concerning (i) socio-demographic information, (ii) conciliation of work, personal and family life during confinement, (iii) the impact of the pandemic on the respondent's family, and (iv) the respo…

Inégalités sociales à l'école et idéologie méritocratique

2003

Twenty years of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Science Schools programs: Assessment of their impact on the participa…

2022

Objective: The following report describes the evaluation of the ISPAD Science School for Physicians (ISSP) and for Healthcare Professionals (ISSHP) in terms of their efficiency and success. Methods: All past attendees from 2000–2019 ISSP and 2004–2019 ISSHP programs were invited to respond to an online survey to assess perceived outcomes of the programs on career development, scientific enhancement, scientific networking, and social opportunities. Results: One-third of the past ISSP (129/428), and approximately 43% of the past ISSHP attendees (105/245) responded to the surveys. Most of ISSP attendees reported that the programs supported their career (82%) by helping to achieve a research po…

Breast cancer screening : socioeconomic factors influencing the participation and screening round adequacy

2013

Mammography screening allowed breast tumors detection in early stage while treatments are less aggressive. Despite the fact that organized mammography screening has been free of charge for the target population since 2004 in France, the participation rate to the programme remains low.The aim of the studies was to investigate individual and area-level socioeconomic factors explaining low breast cancer screening attendance, individual factors influencing mammography screening round adequacy and to assess the evidence of screening round adequacy in the discovery of breast tumors. The results showed that women living in most deprived areas or rural areas, those covered by self-employed insurance…

COVID-19 y escuela a distancia: viejas y nuevas desigualdades

2021

Prophenoloxidase activating system in tunicate hemolymph

1996

The activation sequence and related factors of the prophenoloxidase activating system in crustaceans was compared with the equivalent system in tunicates. Both solitary and colonial ascidians present in their hemolymph a copper-dependent phenoloxidase activity that may be inhibited by tropolone and phenylthiourea. Carbohydrates are able, to various extents, to trigger proPO system which requires serine protease cleavage for activation to phenoloxidase (PO). In some ascidians, hemocytes called ≪morula cells≫ show PO activity, while in Ciona intestinalis the ≪univacuolar refractile granulocytes≫ are positive after cytochemical staining with L-dopa. The relationships between proPO system and d…

Typhoid fever as a cause of opportunistic infection: case report.

2005

Abstract Background Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serotype typhi, which is acquired by ingestion of contaminated food and water. Each year the disease affects at least 16 million persons world-wide, most of whom reside in the developing countries of Southeast Asia and Africa. In Italy the disease is uncommon with a greater number of cases in Southern regions than in Northern ones. Case presentation We report on a 57-year-old Sri-Lankan male affected by typhoid fever, the onset of which was accompanied by oropharyngeal candidiasis. This clinical sign was due to a transient cell-mediated immunity depression (CD4+ cell cou…
