THE SPACE OF STRING CONFIGURATIONS IN STRING FIELD THEORY
1990
In this paper we consider the set of maps from the interval [0, π] which constitute the argument of the functionals of a String Field Theory. We show that in order to correctly reproduce results of the dual model one has to include all square integrable functions in the functional integral, or Ω0 in terms of Sobolev spaces.
The magnetic shielding for the neutron decay spectrometer aSPECT
2014
Abstract Many experiments in nuclear and neutron physics are confronted with the problem that they use a superconducting magnetic spectrometer which potentially affects other experiments by their stray magnetic field. The retardation spectrometer a SPECT consists, inter alia, of a superconducting magnet system that produces a strong longitudinal magnetic field of up to 6.2 T. In order not to disturb other experiments in the vicinity of a SPECT, we had to develop a magnetic field return yoke for the magnet system. While the return yoke must reduce the stray magnetic field, the internal magnetic field and its homogeneity should not be affected. As in many cases, the magnetic shielding for a S…
Quantum Spin-Tunneling:A Path Integral Approach
1995
We investigate the quantum tunneling of a large spin in a crystal field and an external magnetic field. The twofold degeneracy of the corresponding classical ground state is removed due to tunneling. The tunnel splitting ΔE o of the ground state is calculated by use of a path integral formalism. It is shown that coherent spin state path integrals do not yield a reasonable result. However a “bosonlzation” of the spin system yields excellent results in the semiclassical limit. This result follows from the coherent spin state approach from replacing the spin quantum number s by s + 1/2 which causes a renormalization of the preexponential factor of ΔE o .

N-string vertices in string field theory.
1993
We give the general form of the vertex corresponding to the interaction of an arbitrary number of strings. The technique employed relies on the ``comma" representation of String Field Theory where string fields and interactions are represented as matrices and operations between them such as multiplication and trace. The general formulation presented here shows that the interaction vertex of N strings, for any arbitrary N, is given as a function of particular combinations of matrices corresponding to the change of representation between the full string and the half string degrees of freedom.
Monads in double categories
2010
We extend the basic concepts of Street's formal theory of monads from the setting of 2-categories to that of double categories. In particular, we introduce the double category Mnd(C) of monads in a double category C and define what it means for a double category to admit the construction of free monads. Our main theorem shows that, under some mild conditions, a double category that is a framed bicategory admits the construction of free monads if its horizontal 2-category does. We apply this result to obtain double adjunctions which extend the adjunction between graphs and categories and the adjunction between polynomial endofunctors and polynomial monads.
Varcare i confini?: ‘Palinsesti didascalici’ nel terzo libro delle Elegie di Properzio
2020
Although it is objectively difficult to prepare a study on the relation- ships between Propertius’s elegies and the didactic poetry, a help- ful hint for the interpretation is given by the elegy 3, 5, in which the Umbrian poet expresses the desire to study, in his old age, the natu- ral phenomena, extending his study until the interpretation of the underworld. Indeed, in 13th and 22nd elegy of the 3rd book, which is the most experimental of the collection, Propertius will measure against the didactic poems written by Lucretius and Virgil, not cross- ing the boundaries of the genre of the elegy, but occasionally adopt- ing and re-elaborating in a original and explicit way, some elements from…
Childhood trauma and substance use underlying psychosis: a systematic review
2020
[EN] Background: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) are mental diseases caused by a combination of genetic susceptibility and a number of environmental factors. Among these factors, the role of traumatic events suffered in childhood, as well as that of substance use, have been of particular research interest. Objectives: To conduct a systematic review to clarify whether there is an interaction between childhood trauma and substance use related to the diagnosis or symptoms of SSD. It was also the objective of this review to collate the associations that may exist between the three variables of the study (trauma, substance use and psychosis). Methods: We conducted a systematic search resu…
The three-vertex in the closed half-string field theory and the general gluing and resmoothing theorem
1997
In this letter we prove that the half-string three-vertex in closed string field theory satisfies the general gluing and resmoothing theorem. We also demonstrate how one calculates amplitudes in the half-string approach to closed string field theory, by working out explicitly a few simple three-amplitudes.
Co-Evolutionary Coupling via a Digital-bio Ecosystem : A Suggestion for a New R&D Model in the Digital Economy
2019
A solution to the critical problem of a dilemma between R&D expansion and productivity decline that a majority of information and communication technology (ICT) leaders have been confronting in the digital economy is expected. It can be expected by a spinoff from economic functionality-seeking GDP-based coevolution cycle to supra-functionality beyond an economic value-seeking uncaptured GDP-driven coevolution cycle. However, the transformation dynamism remains a black box. By means of numerical simulations based on empirical analyses of the development trajectories of global ICT leaders, focusing on Amazon and Finland, together with an intensive review of preceding analyses, this paper atte…
