Human digital twins and cognitive mimetic
2021
Digital twins – digital models of technical systems and processes – have recently been introduced to work with complex industrial processes. Yet should such models concern only physical objects (as definitions of them often imply), or should users and other human beings also be included? Models that include people have been called human digital twins (HDTs); they facilitate more accurate analyses of technologies in practical use. The cognitive mimetic approach can be used to describe human interactions with technologies. This approach analyses human information processes such as perceiving and thinking to mimic how people process information in order to design intelligent technologies. The …
Temperature-induced martensite in magnetic shape memory Fe2MnGa observed by photoemission electron microscopy
2012
The magnetic domain structure in single crystals of a Heusler shape memory compound near the composition Fe2MnGa was observed during phase transition by photoelectron emission microscopy at Beamline 11.0.1.1 of the Advanced Light Source. The behavior is comparable with recent observations of an adaptive martensite phase in prototype Ni2MnGa, although the pinning in the recent work is an epitaxial interface and in this work the effective pinning plane is a boundary between martensitic variants that transform in a self-accommodating way from the single crystal austenite phase present at high temperatures. Temperature dependent observations of the twinning structure give information as to the …
The generalizability of Older Adult Self-Report (OASR) syndromes of psychopathology across 20 societies
2020
Contains fulltext : 217516.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Objectives: As the world population ages, psychiatrists will increasingly need instruments for measuring constructs of psychopathology that are generalizable to diverse elders. The study tested whether syndromes of co-occurring problems derived from self-ratings of psychopathology by US elders would fit self-ratings by elders in 19 other societies. Methods/design: The Older Adult Self-Report (OASR) was completed by 12 826 adults who were 60 to 102 years old in 19 societies from North and South America, Asia, and Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Europe, plus the United States. Individual and multigroup confirmatory…
Growth and defect studies of CdTe particles
2013
The paper reports the epitaxial growth of cadmium telluride (CdTe) particles by thermal deposition on cleaved planes of (001)NaCl and (001)KBr. Using high resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction it was shown that CdTe particles could have different orientation and phase (cubic or hexagonal) depending on the substrate temperature. Their most common defects are twins and stacking faults.
Electron Diffraction and Imaging of Uncompressed Monolayers of Amphiphilic Molecules on Vitreous and Hexagonal Ice
1993
A new approach is described for probing domains of ordered self-assemblies of amphiphilic monolayers at the aqueous solution interface. The method has potential importance for the study of membrane structure, Langmuir-Blodgett films, and nucleation processes of two-and three-dimensional crystals. Electron diffraction (ED) patterns indicative of two-dimensional crystalline self-assembly were obtained from samples, which were examined by cryo-electron microscopy, of monolayers of water-insoluble amphiphiles on vitrified aqueour substrates. The apparent hexagonal symmetry of an ED pattern from a C(16)H(33)OH monolayer was interpreted in terms of multiple twinning. Monolayers of the CL(31)H(63)…
Structural phase transition to disorder low-temperature phase in [Fe(ptz)6](BF4)2 spin-crossover compounds.
2012
In the spin-crossover compound [Fe(ptz)6](BF4)2 (where ptz=1-n-propyltetrazole) six different phases are observed. When a single crystal is slowly cooled from high temperatures to those below 125 K, the reflections broaden into diffuse maxima and split into two maxima along the c* direction [Kusz, Gütlich & Spiering (2004). Top. Curr. Chem. 234, 129–153]. As both maxima are broad along the c* direction, the short-range order exists only along the c direction and in the ab plane the structure remains long-range ordered. In this disordered phase additional satellite reflections appear. Upon heating above 135 K, the diffuse maxima return to their previous shape and this process is complete…
Abstract: This article proposes an analysis of the representation of the journey in contemporary literature. It’s assume…

Using Electron Diffraction to Solve the Crystal Structure of a Laked Azo Pigment
2009
The structure of the ζ phase of Pigment Red 53:2 was solved using electron diffraction data. The unit cell determination appeared to be more complicated due to twinning of the crystals. A series of...
Study of plastic deformation modes in zirconium by color image analysis
2004
Abstract Twinning, as a deformation mode, is a complement to slip. This paper deals with the study from a qualitative point of view, as well as from a quantitative one. Besides techniques widely used in materials science studies such as electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) or X-ray diffraction (XRD), colour image analysis technique are presented here. Its results manage to confirm or complete the ones obtained, thanks to others methods.
