Polymorphisms in the human angiotensin II receptor genes have been linked to cardiovascular and nephrological disorders. This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID-SP) Scale. Data were collected from patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The findings suggested that the PAID-SP is a reliable and valid measure of diabetes-specific emotional problems.

Each year, many pregnant women fast from dawn to sunset during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Medical theory suggests that this may have negative long-term health effects on their offspring. Building upon the work of Almond and Mazumder (2008), and using Indonesian crosssectional data, I show that people who were exposed to Ramadan fasting during their mother's pregnancy have a poorer general health and are sick more often than people who were not exposed. This effect is especially pronounced among older people, who, when exposed, also report health problems more often that are indicative of coronary heart problems and type 2 diabetes. Abstract Aim The aim of the present study was to identify the affected gene in a French family with maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) using whole-exome sequencing (WES). Methods WES was performed in one patient with MODY, and candidate variants were confirmed in members of the immediate family by Sanger sequencing. Results In the proband, a new heterozygous missense mutation (c.340A>C) was identified in the NEUROD1 gene by WES analysis and confirmed by Sanger sequencing. A polymorphic microsatellite in intron 6 of the human proteasome core particle PSMA6 gene (HSMS006), and four other microsatellites localized upstream on human chromosome 14q13.2 (HSMS801, HSMS702, HSMS701, HSMS602), were genotyped in 104 type 2 diabetic patients and 129 age-matched control subjects from Latvia and replicated in 91 type 2 diabetic patients and 88 age-matched healthy control subjects from the Botnia Study in Finland.
