Creating an image of people with disabilities in formal education. Analysis of the textbooks used in the chosen European countries

2016

Creating an image of people with disabilities in formal education is an important element of educating young people into a full and unbiased understanding of the needs and reality of these people. Consequently, it is an element of creating a social climate around people with disabilities and influencing state policy in this area. Therefore, I find it extremely important to analyse and compare ideas worked out in different countries in order to correctly assess our own situation and find inspiring and applicable solutions. In the text, I focused on one component of the system of formal education, i.e. selected textbooks used in Poland and Sweden in which I highlighted their disability-relate…

French Fries, French Foxes and Crazy Frenchmen in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994) and Roger Avary's Killing Zoe (1994) : Reading Hollywood “F…

2010

International audience; This article focuses on the representation of Frenchness in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Roger Avary's Killing Zoe, which were both released in 1994 and made by directors who regularly collaborated at the time. The treatment of Frenchness is different in both films, Pulp Fiction containing several anecdotal references and one French character, while Killing Zoe takes place in France with an almost exclusively European cast. The representation of Frenchness in these films will be my starting point to determine the readings possible for a spectator who is or is not familiar with French and French culture. “Frenchness,” which Pierre Verdaguer has shown is genera…

Brand social representations: strategic perspectives for a fitness club

2009

International audience; The aim of this study was to identify an accurate tool to enable fitness club managers to discover those opinions or stereotypes which represent obstacles to joining their organisations. Starting with brand image, the analysis then considered social representations as relevant constructs for apprehending these opinions or prejudices. The use of a word association task and the model of basic cognitive schemes (Rouquette, 1990; 1994) provided access to the salient elements of the social representations of a particular sport brand and the way they are structured. The procedure combining these two stages represented a diagnostic tool for identifying the attractive and un…

Od buntu do wyzwolenia. Image kobiety nieobyczajnej według Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, Simone de Beauvoir, Françoise Sagan i Marguerite Duras

2018

Victims, villains or organized community? : discrimination, social exclusion and empowerment in the media representation of urban poverty : case of b…

2012

The purpose of this thesis is to study the media representation of urban poverty in a developing country context, focusing specifically on the connections between media representation and social exclusion. The theoretical-methodological basis of this work draws from critical cultural studies and sociological media research, specifically from the theoretical assumptions of critical discourse analysis about media representation. The premise is the constructionist view that the media does not directly reflect the reality of urban poverty, but constructs journalist reproductions of it from a particular perspective and in a certain social context. Media representation of the subordinated groups …

The main focus of the author are still current issues of diversity, division “us” versus “foreigners”, stigma and social exclusion. The author based on the analysis of existing materials and a focus group interview presents how the stereotypical perception of reality can affect the development of mutual prejudices

Stability of stochastic nonlinear systems with state-dependent switching

2013

In this paper, the problem of stability on stochastic systems with state-dependent switching is investigated. To analyze properties of the switched system by means of Itô’s formula and Dynkin’s formula, it is critical to show switching instants being stopping times. When the given active-region set can be replaced by its interior, the local solution of the switched system is constructed by defining a series of stopping times as switching instants, and the criteria on global existence and stability of solution are presented by Lyapunov approach. For the case where the active-region set can not be replaced by its interior, the switched systems do not necessarily have solutions, thereby quasi-…

A Sub-Supersolution Approach for Robin Boundary Value Problems with Full Gradient Dependence

2020

The paper investigates a nonlinear elliptic problem with a Robin boundary condition, which exhibits a convection term with full dependence on the solution and its gradient. A sub- supersolution approach is developed for this type of problems. The main result establishes the existence of a solution enclosed in the ordered interval formed by a sub-supersolution. The result is applied to find positive solutions.
