Phonon Softening and Electron-Phonon Interaction in YBa2Cu3O7−δ
1993
We report on the Raman scattering investigation of the 335 cm−1 phonon of Ag (pseudo-B1g) symmetry in thin YBa2Cu3O7−δfilms on various substrates. The experiments yield values for the phonon softening below Tc, which differ from sample to sample. We find a linear relation between the softening and the inverse asymmetry parameter of the phonon Fano-like lineshape, when these parameters, obtained from different samples, are compared with each other. In contrast to this, the onset temperatures for the softening are the same for these samples.
Relation between microstructure and transport properties of epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7-d thin films.
1997
Abstract In order to understand the origin of the high critical current densities observed in thin superconducting films compared to single crystals we measured in several epitaxial YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ thin films the magnetic field and temperature dependence of the superconducting current density j s and the dynamical relaxation rate Q ≡ d ln j s / d ln( d B/ dt ). For all samples we found that (i) the superconducting current density j s is independent of magnetic field up to a certain field B Φ . The value of this field, which is sample dependent, decreases with increasing temperature; (ii) for fields B>B Φ , the superconducting current density falls off as B −1/2 over several decades; (iii) …
Influence of the U3O7 domain structure on cracking during the oxidation of UO2
2010
Abstract Cracking is observed when a UO 2 single crystal is oxidised in air. Previous studies led to the hypothesis that cracking occurs once a critical depth of U 3 O 7 oxidised layer is reached. We present some μ-Laue X-ray diffraction results, which evidence that the U 3 O 7 layer, grown by topotaxy on UO 2 , is made of domains with different crystalline orientations. This observation was used to perform a modelling of oxidation coupling chemical and mechanical parameters, which showed that the domain patterning induces stress localisation. This result is discussed in comparison with stress localisation observed in thin layer deposited on a substrate and used to propose an interpretation…
Bi-2212 and Y123 highly curved single-crystal-like objects: whiskers, bows and ring-like structures
2012
High-temperature superconducting objects of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Y Ba2Cu3O7 highly curved in the ab-plane, such as curved/kinked whiskers, bows and ring-like structures, were obtained within a solid?liquid?solid (SLS) grass-like growth mechanism. As-grown objects are crystals with three-dimensional epitaxy similar to conventional single crystals: they can be viewed as crystal parts ?cut? from a conventional rectangular crystal. Between our curved objects and conventional crystals, whiskers or thin films there are some differences in the superconducting properties induced only by the shape factors and no new physics is observed. Some details of the growth mechanism are discussed, emphasizing cu…
