Molecular dynamics studies of 3D quasicrystals

Abstract The thermodynamic behaviour of monatomic and diatomic models of three-dimensional icosahedral quasicrystals has been studied in NVT and NPT ensembles using molecular dynamics simulations with atoms interacting via Lennard-Jones potentials. We also report on a microcanonical MD simulation of decagonal Al 65 Cu 20 Co 15 quasicrystals where an experimentally determined binary model has been used. To obtain stability in this latter case it is necessary to endow the atoms with effective pair potentials. No transitions to crystalline or amorphous phases were found for diatomic models. The finite element implementation of 3D fractional viscoelastic constitutive models

Abstract The aim of this paper is to present the implementation of 3D fractional viscoelastic constitutive theory presented in Alotta et al., 2016 [1]. Fractional viscoelastic models exactly reproduce the time dependent behaviour of real viscoelastic materials which exhibit a long “fading memory”. From an implementation point of view, this feature implies storing the stress/strain history throughout the simulations which may require a large amount of memory. We propose here a number of strategies to effectively limit the memory required. The form of the constitutive equations are summarized and the finite element implementation in a Newton-Raphson integration scheme is described in detail. …

Inelastic neutron scattering measurements on Nd2Fe14B and Y2Fe14B single crystals

Abstract Inelastic neutron scattering measurements have been carried out on Nd 2 Fe 14 B and Y 2 Fe 14 B single crystals. Temperature dependent acoustic magnon dispersion curves have been found along the high-symmetry directions [0,0,1] and [1,0,0] with a gap at (0,0,2). Soft mode behaviour at spin wave vector q = 0 was observed for Nd 2 Fe 14 B near the spin reorientation temperature. The inelastic scattering intensity decreases steeply for larger q . Therefore, the dispersion curves could be measured until the middle of the Brillouin zone only. The experimental results are discussed in the frame of a classical spin wave model.

El objetivo de este estudio es el de elaborar una propuesta didáctica que maximice el tiempo y los recursos destinados a la enseñanza del inglés durante los tres ciclos que, en España, recibe la educación primaria, con alumnos con edades comprendidas entre los 6 y los 12 años. El método escogido para lograr dicho objetivo es la interdisciplinariedad, de tal modo que pueda lograrse la síntesis de contenidos pertenecientes a distintas disciplinas y áreas curriculares, en este caso a la “Enseñanza de una lengua extranjera” (inglés) y al “Conocimiento del medio natural, social y cultural”. Il libro propone un'interpretazione della "Rhetorica" di Aristotele come un'opera interessante non solo per gli studiosi di comunicazione ma anche per la riflessione antropologica. Ciò che rende ancora feconda la "Rhetorica" è il fatto che essa ci consegna una visione originale dell'animale umano a partire da un aspetto apparentemente marginale: la sua capacità, sempre esposta al fallimento, di parlare per persuadere, se stesso innanzitutto, e gli altri. Attraverso l'indagine su "ciò che può risultare persuasivo" (è questo, in sintesi, l'argomento della "Rhetorica") Aristotele mette a fuoco questioni ancora cruciali nel dibattito sulla natura umana.
