Tässä artikkelissa käsittelen työmuistin rajallisuuden ja aikuisten suomenoppijoiden puheenymmärtämisvaikeuksien yhteyttä tarkastelemalla oppijoiden kuuntelutehtäväsuorituksia ja niitä seuraavia stimulated recall -haastatteluja. Lisäksi selvitän, millaisilla muistitoiminnoilla oppijat kompensoivat työmuistin rajallisuutta ja helpottavat ymmärtämistä. Tutkimukseen osallistui 12 arabiankielistä alkeis- ja perustason aikuista suomenoppijaa, ja aineisto koostuu oppijoiden kuuntelutehtäväsuoritusten ja stimulated recall -haastattelujen videotallenteista. Studies on the response of a water-Cherenkov detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory to atmospheric muons using an RPC hodoscope

Extensive air showers, originating from ultra-high energy cosmic rays, have been successfully measured through the use of arrays of water-Cherenkov detectors (WCDs). Sophisticated analyses exploiting WCD data have made it possible to demonstrate that shower simulations, based on different hadronic-interaction models, cannot reproduce the observed number of muons at the ground. The accurate knowledge of the WCD response to muons is paramount in establishing the exact level of this discrepancy. Flux limits on ultra high energy neutrinos with AMANDA-B10

Abstract Data taken during 1997 with the AMANDA-B10 detector are searched for a diffuse flux of neutrinos of all flavors with energies above 10 16 eV. At these energies the Earth is opaque to neutrinos, and thus neutrino induced events are concentrated at the horizon. The background are large muon bundles from down-going atmospheric air shower events. No excess events above the background expectation are observed and a neutrino flux following E −2 , with an equal mix of all flavors, is limited to E 2 Φ (10 15 eV E 18 eV) ⩽ 0.99 × 10 −6 GeV cm −2 s −1 sr −1 at 90% confidence level. This is the most restrictive experimental bound placed by any neutrino detector at these energies. Bound…
Kuvitellut Pohjoismaat Viron presidenttien puheissa

Pohjoismaisuus on ollut oleellinen osa Viron kuulumisen politiikkaa viimeisen parinkymmenen vuoden aikana. Artikkeli analysoi, miten ja missä tarkoituksessa maan kolme presidenttiä asemoivat puheissaan Viroa suhteessa Pohjoismaihin vuosina 1992–2016. Tulokset osoittavat, että pohjoismaisuus saa kuulumisen politiikassa moninaisia muotoja: Pohjoismaihin kuulumisen, sen rajalla tai naapurissa olemisen lisäksi aineistossa uudelleen määritellään myös Pohjoismaat yhteisönä visioimalla Itämeren alueelle sijoittuvaa dynaamista ja kehittyvää Pohjola-Baltia-kokonaisuutta.
