Sulla base della documentazione manoscritta, anche inedita, e di altre fonti si ripercorrono le vicende che portarono nel 1816 Barthold Georg Niebuhr a scoprire il palinsesto delle Istituzioni di Gaio nella Biblioteca Capitolare di Verona e si discute criticamente la casualità di tale scoperta.

In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar. Iʿtibārī Concepts in Suhrawardī : The Case of Substance

Abstract Shihāb al-Dīn al-Suhrawardī (d. 587/1191) famously criticised the central concepts of Avicennian metaphysics as merely mind-dependent (or iʿtibārī) notions. This paper aims to show that despite his critique, Suhrawardī held that these concepts are meaningful, indeed necessary for human cognition. By the same token, it is argued that their re-emergence in Suhrawardī’s ishrāqī metaphysics is not a matter of incoherence. Although the paper’s findings can be generalised to hold of all iʿtibārī concepts, mutatis mutandis, our focus is on the concept of substance, mainly because of the importance of the concept of ‘dusky substance’ in ishrāqī metaphysics.

The Question of Providence and the Problem of Evil in Suhrawardī

Abstract Šihāb al-Dīn al-Suhrawardī’s philosophical works seem to contain two conflicting views on providence: in the Talwīḥāt and the Mašāriʿ, he endorses the Avicennian view, only to deny providence altogether in the Ḥikmat al-išrāq. This contribution aims to explain the seeming inconsistency by investigating it in light of the underlying question of God’s knowledge of particular things. I will also argue that despite his qualms concerning providence, Suhrawardī accepts the closely related Avicennian answer to the problem of evil.

Methods: Possible annotated domains of the DR1533 locus protein (Shp) were searched by bioinformatic analysis. The gene was cloned and expressed as fusion protein. In the archives of the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften two letters by Barthold Georg Niebuhr of September 1816 are preserved which have never been published in a scholarly edition. The present transcription of the text is diplomatical. Furthermore the letters are examinated in their historical context. The use made of these letters in an anonymous publication in the same year in the Allegmeine Literatur-Zeitung is also discussed.

he 2014–2015 Bárðarbunga fissure eruption at Holuhraun in central Iceland was distinguished by the high emission of gases, in total 9.6 Mt SO2, with almost no tephra. This work collates all ground-based measurements of this extraordinary eruption cloud made under particularly challenging conditions: remote location, optically dense cloud with high SO2 column amounts, low UV intensity, frequent clouds and precipitation, an extensive and hot lava field, developing ramparts, and high-latitude winter conditions. Purpose This paper aims to review the behavioral phishing literature to understand why anti-phishing recommendations are not very effective and to propose ways of making the recommendations more effective. The paper also examines how the concept of stages from health communication and psychology can be used to make recommendations against phishing more effective. Design/methodology/approach This literature review study focused on the behavioral phishing literature that has relied on human subjects.
