La costruzione sociale dei suicidi
2020
Izlasi veido 105 respondenti vecumā no 14 līdz 17 gadiem. Pētījumā tiek izmantota Vadības funkciju uzvedības vērtēšanas aptauja – pašnovērtējuma versija (Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function – Self-Report Version, BRIEF-SR; Guy, Isquith & Gioia, 1996), Bērnu depresijas aptauja (Children’s Depression Inventory; Kovacs, 1981); Pašnāvības domu aptauja (The Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation Inventory, PANSI (Osman & Gutierrez, 1998). Pētījuma rezultāti atklāj statistiski nozīmīgas korelācijas starp suicidālām domām un vadības funkciju grūtībām, statistiski nozīmīgi suicidālu…
Determination of glyphosate and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid in fruit juices using supported-liquid membrane preconcentration method wit…
2005
Abstract The application of supported-liquid membrane (SLM) technique for effective extraction of N -(phosphonomethyl)glycine (glyphosate) and its primary metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) from juices (orange, grapefruit, apple and blackcurrant) in combination with HPLC-UV detection after derivatization with p -toluenesulphonyl chloride (TsCl) is presented. The influence of various parameters such as the composition of acceptor phase, flow-rate, concentration of analytes, on the performance of extraction procedure, was studied. It was shown that by appropriate manipulation of SLM parameters the level of detection could be significantly improved. The influence of SLM conditions on…
Initial-Stage Suicide Bereavement Experiences: A Case Study.
2022
This study aimed to shed light on the initial-stage bereavement experiences of an individual bereaved by suicide, at three months from the loss of his spouse to suicide. A semi-structured in-depth interview was conducted with the individual, a man in his thirties. The data were analyzed using qualitative assimilation analysis, based on the Assimilation Model and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES). The APES ratings of the interview revealed that the individual’s bereavement was associated with the earlier stages of APES (all scoring under 3.5). In addition, the swift and frequent fluctuations in the APES ratings gave indications that the bereavement was unstable and co…
Longitudinal Changes in Suicide Bereavement Experiences : A Qualitative Study of Family Members over 18 Months after Loss
2023
Family members bereaved by their loved ones’ suicidal death normally undergo a complicated and lengthy bereavement process. In this qualitative case study, we explored longitudinal changes in the suicide bereavement process by applying assimilation analysis, based on the Assimilation Model (AM) and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES), to longitudinal interview data collected from two Chinese suicide-bereaved individuals within the first 18 months after their loss. The results showed that over time the participants both progressed in adapting to their traumatic losses. Assimilation analysis both effectively elaborated the difference in the inner world of the bereaved and…
Depressive symptoms during adolescence: Do learning difficulties matter?
2011
To examine whether learning difficulties play a role in depressive symptoms, 658 Finnish adolescents were asked to complete scales for depression three times during the transition to post-comprehensive education. They also reported on their learning difficulties and feelings of inadequacy as a student. The results showed that learning difficulties prospectively predicted depressive symptoms. Moreover, the impact of learning difficulties was mediated via inadequacy as a student: learning difficulties predicted feelings of inadequacy as a student which, in turn, contributed to greater increases in depressive symptoms. Finally, gender moderated the association between learning difficulties an…
Memorializing mass deaths at the border: two cases from Canberra (Australia) and Lampedusa (Italy)
2017
In this paper, we compare two seemingly very similar instances in which individuals and organizations within the borders of the global North have memorialized the deaths of irregular migrants at sea: the SIEV X memorial in Australia’s national capital Canberra, and the Giardino della memoria (Garden of Remembrance) on the Italian island of Lampedusa. Unlike ephemeral manifestations of grief, potentially these memorials have effects that reach well beyond their creation. We relate the differences between the memorials to the contexts within which they were created: an immediate local response involving people directly affected by the disaster’s aftermath, on the one hand, and a delayed natio…
