Adult students in web-based thesis seminars : insights and challenges for supervision

We examine the web-based thesis seminars in the context of academic adult education in our article which presents and reflects on the development of web-based teaching. Our reflection is based on our own web-based teaching experiences in the open university and in the class teachers' adult education programme aiming at the Master's degree, and in the feedback material that has been collected from the students. Dziewiętnastowieczne górnośląskie protokoły sądu rozjemczego jako podstawa badań językowych

Artykuł dowodzi, że w warunkach obcej państwowości ukształtował się w XIX stuleciu na Śląsku polski protokół sądowy jako gatunek tekstu. Oparty był na wzorach niemieckich, wymaganych przez oficjalne czynniki administracyjne. Zawierał konstytutywne wyznaczniki gatunkowe protokołu. Świadczą o tym liczne protokoły polskie zapisane w księgach protokolarnych sądów rozjemczych powiatu strzeleckiego, przechowywane w Archiwum Państwowym w Opolu. Istnienie i funkcjonowanie tego gatunku w określonej sytuacji historycznej Śląska, na przestrzeni siedmiu dziesięcioleci, w warunkach dominacji niemczyzny i przy stałe nasilających się naciskach germanizacyjnych świadczy o nieco szerszym zakresie użytkowani…

Matkapuhelinten ja varsinkin internetin myötä kirjoitettu kieli on jo kohta noin pari vuosikymmentä ollut muutosvaiheessa – jotkut saattavat jopa miettiä, onko kirjoittaminen enää lainkaan tarpeellista ihmisten välisessä viestinnässä. Tässä kandidaatintutkielmassa keskitytään tarkastelemaan sanojen muodostumista sekä hymiöiden käyttöä synkronoidussa eli reaaliaikaisessa online - keskusteluhuoneessa DeviantART-sivustolla. Šis darbs iepazīstina ar laikraksta The Guardian tiešsiastes publikāciju analīzi. Šī darba mērķis ir izanalizēt pastāvīgo vārdu (lietvārdu, darbības vārdu un īpašības vārdu) biežumu laikrakstu publikācijas un to diskusiju ziņās. Galvenā pētījuma metode bija korpusa-lingvistiskā metode, kas balstīta uz Makenerija (2006) teoriju. Šī darba autors izveidoja mini-korpusu, kas sastāvēja no divām teksta grupām: laikrakstu publikācijām un diskusiju ziņām. Vārdšķiru biežuma sadalījums korpusā, norāda uz formalitātes līmeņu atšķirību starp laikrakstu publikācijām un to diskusiju ziņām. The ongoing internationalization of audiovisual media increases the need for new ways of overcoming linguistic barriers. In Germany, where the common technique has always been dubbing, subtitles are however becoming more and more popular. The present article will deal with the application possibilities of subtitles in audiovisual translation with reference to humoristic elements. The article will present two theoretical approaches to the translation of humour which will be then put into practice by using three sketches of the Ecuadorian web series Enchufe.tv as an example. This article is about language used in menus. The recently changing approach to cooking and eating is also reflected in language that describes food. Restaurant menus are a clear example of this. It is because eating, i. e. experiencing the taste of dishes, does not only take using our tongue, but it also involves using language. Some restaurant owners are aware of the relationship between taste and word, which is reflected in the way some dishes are described in menu cards offered to customers. The purpose of the article is to analyse menus of selected restaurants and to show some linguistic tricks used by restaurant owners to encourage customers to eat in their restaurants.

In this dissertation, I study the observance of holy days among the peasantry in the early modern province of Savo, located on the eastern periphery of the Swedish kingdom (today Eastern Finland). I examine the practices, norms and meanings related to the observance of holy days both within and outside the Church, and analyse the changes and continuities in the post-reformation period. As the main sources of the study, I use district court records and visitation records mainly from the period 1639–1712.
