Photomicrography of skin by ultraviolet light.

Skin sections superimposed on fine-grained photographic plates were exposed to ultraviolet light (2580 A wavelength). The images obtained, which reproduced the microanatomy of tissue in the process of ultraviolet photoabsorption, were studied under the microscope. Since absorption is proportional to the concentration of such biologically important chromophore-bearing substances as nueleoproteins and melanoproteins, the method gives information on the content and distribution of these substances in normal and altered tissue.

Determination of fatty alcohol ethoxylates by derivatisation with maleic anhydride followed by liquid chromatography with UV-vis detection.

The esterification of fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAEs) by melting with maleic anhydride has been studied in the presence of urea. The reaction rate and yield of non-ethoxylated and ethoxylated alcohols increase largely when grinded urea is suspended in the reaction medium, a 100% yield being achieved at 80 degrees C in 15 min. The procedure is tolerant to the presence of large amounts of water. Dependence of polytetrafluoroethylene reflectance on thickness at visible and ultraviolet wavelengths in air

[EN] Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an excellent diffuse reflector widely used in light collection systems for particle physics experiments. However, the reflectance of PTFE is a function of its thickness. In this work, we investigate this dependence in air for light of wavelengths 260 nm and 450 nm using two complementary methods. We find that PTFE reflectance for thicknesses from 5 mm to 10 mm ranges from 92.5% to 94.5% at 450 nm, and from 90.0% to 92.0% at 260 nm We also see that the reflectance of PIFE of a given thickness can vary by as much as 2.7% within the same piece of material. PROMINENCE PLASMA DIAGNOSTICS THROUGH EXTREME-ULTRAVIOLET ABSORPTION

In this paper we introduce a new diagnostic technique that uses prominence EUV and UV absorption to determine the prominence plasma electron temperature and column emission measure, as well as He/H relative abundance; if a realistic assumption on the geometry of the absorbing plasma can be made, this technique can also yield the absorbing plasma electron density. This technique capitalizes on the absorption properties of Hydrogen and Helium at different wavelength ranges and temperature regimes. EUV FLICKERING OF SOLAR CORONAL LOOPS: A NEW DIAGNOSTIC OF CORONAL HEATING

A previous work of ours found the best agreement between EUV light curves observed in an active region core (with evidence of super-hot plasma) and those predicted from a model with a random combination of many pulse-heated strands with a power-law energy distribution. We extend that work by including spatially resolved strand modeling and by studying the evolution of emission along the loops in the EUV 94 angstrom and 335 angstrom channels of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Large-amplitude Quasiperiodic Pulsations as Evidence of Impulsive Heating in Hot Transient Loop Systems Detected in the EUV with SDO/AIA

Short heat pulses can trigger plasma pressure fronts inside closed magnetic tubes in the corona. The alternation of condensations and rarefactions from the pressure modes drive large-amplitude pulsations in the plasma emission. Here we show the detection of such pulsations along magnetic tubes that brighten transiently in the hot 94A EUV channel of SDO/AIA. The pulsations are consistent with those predicted by hydrodynamic loop modeling, and confirm pulsed heating in the loop system. On the Coronal Temperature in Solar Microflares

We present a study of solar imaging and spectral observations of a microflare, focusing on the temperature diagnostics provided by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory, and the Extreme-Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on board Hinode. Our data analysis, in particular from the emission in the 131 and 94 Å channels, indicates that the heated plasma reaches temperatures of ≿10 MK, at odds with a previous analysis of the same event, and we discuss the reason for the discrepancy. Strong field amplification of XUV: phase matching aspects

The dependence of the yield of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) on several important experimental parameters has been successfully modeled in the last 20 years by taking into account the single atom response and propagation effects. We extended this description by adding a stimulated emission process and named it x-ray parametric amplification (XPA).
