Digging into group establishment: Intervention design and evaluation
2021
Previous research has documented challenges in students’ group work. An identifiable segment of the previous research that relates to improving students’ group work conditions is the study of group formation and self- and peer-assessment. Though studies that primarily focus on how to address the conditions of students’ group work and the existing problems can be found, there are not many related to higher education settings. On this ground, the present article advances a qualitative evaluation of the intervention that promotes student groups’ self-awareness and thereby self-regulation toward fair group work during a software engineering project. An inductive thematic analysis was applied to…
Will they, won’t they? Dream sequences and virtual consummation in the series Moonlighting
2021
The 1980s series Moonlighting was one of the first dramedies on the small screen; it took its cue from venerable genres like the screwball comedy or the hard-boiled novel (particularly The Thin Man) and translated them to television’s changing structures and aesthetics, participating in what has been termed the second Golden Age of television. However, the Nick and Norah Charles of Moonlighting, David and Maddie, were not married: on the contrary, the series was largely fuelled by the tension between the two leads, who were constantly sparring but were seemingly drawn to one another. Though this romantic tension has long been a staple of the silver screen, translating it into weekly episode…
Paraules clau: Ausias March, Aristotil, Summa Alexandrinorum, Brunetto Latini, Tomas d’Aquino Abstract : The paralysis metaphor is crucial to the understan…

QCD resummation effects in forward J/ψ and very backward jet inclusive production at the LHC
2017
´ We propose and study the inclusive production of a forward J/ψ and a very backward jet at the LHC as an observable to reveal high-energy resummation effects à la BFKL. Our different predictions are based on the various existing mechanisms to describe the production of the J/ψ, namely, NRQCD singlet and octet contributions, and the color evaporation model. © 2017 Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Interpretation and Chemometric Evaluation of the Bilirubin Interference in the Kinetic Spectrophotometry Determination of Creatinine in Serum by Use …
1992
Abstract SUMMARY In an alkaline picrate medium we demonstrated the occurrence of isosbestic points over the range 520–550 nm, the position depending on the bilirubin content and less on the albumin content. Bilirubin does not markedly modify the ratt constant of the reaction between creatinine and picrate, however, it does modify the intercept of the Ln ΔA vs t, plots. The absolute value of Ln ΔA varies with the concentration, though not with time, which indicates that bilirubin acts by consuming part of the initially present creatinine irrespective of its owr concentration at the wavelengths typically used in the creatinine determination. The Ln ΔA values at the isosbestic points coincide …
HL7v3 CDA Rel.2 prescription: Localization experience and GP Integration Project
2010
The localization experience for the e-prescription, based on the Health Level Seven Version 3 (HL7v3) Clinical Document Architecture, Release 2 (CDA Rel.2), is presented. As application, we propose a project of General Practitioners Integration with the EHR (Electronic Health Record), implementing the e-prescription, patient summary and other CDA Rel.2 documents. The integration is made possible with HL7v3, the most widely used standard for healthcare information interoperability. The project is in line with the state of the art in the normative referring context for the Italian Healthcare, both at national and regional level (Tuscany Region). Final remarks are drawn, also referring to the …
Personalization of immediate feedback to learning styles
2007
Feedback provided to a user is an important part of learning and interaction in e-learning systems. In this paper we present the results of our pilot experiment aimed to study interrelation between several types of immediate feedback presentation and learning styles (LSs) of users. In the experiment we used the feedback supported by quiz module of moodle learning system. The obtained results demonstrate tendencies in interrelation between LS and immediate/summative feedback presentation and we suggest three hypotheses for future research.
Anisotropic elliptic equations with gradient-dependent lower order terms and L^1 data
2023
<p>We prove the existence of a weak solution for a general class of Dirichlet anisotropic elliptic problems such as $ \mathcal Au+\Phi(x, u, \nabla u) = \mathfrak{B}u+f $ in $ \Omega $, where $ \Omega $ is a bounded open subset of $ \mathbb R^N $ and $ f\in L^1(\Omega) $ is arbitrary. The principal part is a divergence-form nonlinear anisotropic operator $ \mathcal A $, the prototype of which is $ \mathcal A u = -\sum_{j = 1}^N \partial_j(|\partial_j u|^{p_j-2}\partial_j u) $ with $ p_j &gt; 1 $ for all $ 1\leq j\leq N $ and $ \sum_{j = 1}^N (1/p_j) &gt; 1 $. As a novelty in this paper, our lower order terms involve a new class of operators $ \mathfrak B $ such…
Effects of summarization tasks on comprehension monitoring of science texts in university students with elementary or intermediate English proficiency
2012
Two studies were conducted to improve Spanish university students" comprehension monitoring of macro-ideas when reading expository Science texts in English (L2). The first one evaluated the effects of using summarization tasks on comprehension monitoring compared to other reading-for-understanding tasks. A significant improvement of comprehension monitoring was obtained from the summarization tasks. Results in study 1 suggested study 2 aimed at instructing students on summarizing texts in L2. The instructional work had a single significant contribution to students" comprehension monitoring on the macro-structural level. English proficiency also explained a significant proportion of the vari…
