According to Serbessa (2006) there is a tension between Western pedagogy, in particular child-centred learning, and traditional Ethiopian approaches to teaching. In this study, this tension is examined through the teaching methods used and the resources teachers have at their disposal. This study examines how disability service workers identify the discourses of the client-worker relationships. We studied the clientworker relationship from the perspective of the relational dialectics theory with a focus on relational contradictions and the meanings created within discursive struggles. We analyzed the interview data from 22 social workers using contrapuntal analysis. Burned-out Fathers and Untold Stories: Mixed Methods Investigation of the Demands and Resources of Finnish Fathers

Although parental burnout has been acknowledged as a unique psychological condition that can have serious consequences to families, most research so far has been conducted with mothers. The present study investigated how the descriptions of parenting-related demands and resources differ between burned-out and non-burned-out fathers. Furthermore, we examined what kinds of support or services fathers need to increase their wellbeing as parents. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastelen isyyden kulttuurista rakentumista diskursiivisissa käytänteissä 1970-luvulta 2010-luvulle. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaista puhetta isyydestä on esiintynyt perhelehden artikkeleissa. Tutkielman aineiston olen kerännyt perhelehdestä Kaksplus. Vuodesta 1970 vuoteen 2010 olen käynyt läpi kaksi numeroa, numerot 3 ja 10, joista olen aineistoksi valinnut isyyteen liittyvät artikkelit. Lopullisen diskurssianalyysin aineistoksi eristin artikkeleista ne, jotka ovat miehen haastatteluja tai miehen kirjoituksia. We introduce in this chapter discourse analysis as a methodological tool for studying work-family issues, particularly those of men and fathers in work and care. Work and family involve complex processes and dynamics, where reconciling different interpretations of events are temporally and contextually changing. Current discourses on involved fatherhood raise many questions about men's work and family relationships and the role of care in their life. AbstractIn this chapter, we analyse the features of textbooks that enable and facilitate their role as material agents in the classroom. Rather than analyse the ways textbooks are used in interaction with humans, we analyse the elements in the textbook itself that facilitate intra-action and the ensuing material agency. Based on a discursive analysis of self-assessment in one textbook and discussing that construct against the Finnish national core curriculum and previous research, we present an ‘ideal imaginary’ of classroom activities as construed in the textbook. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastelun kohteena ovat vanhusasiakkaan ja sosiaalityöntekijän väliset asumiseen ja sairaalasta kotiutumiseen liittyvät keskustelut. Tavoitteena on analysoida vanhusasiakkaan asumisen järjestämiseen liittyviä sosiaalityön keskustelukäytäntöjä sekä sitä, miten näissä neuvotteluissa säädellään vanhusasiakkaan toimijuutta ja itsemääräämisoikeutta, eli asiakkaan osallisuutta omaa elämäänsä koskevassa asiassa. Tavoitteena on myös hahmottaa erilaisia subjektipositioita, joihin sosiaalityöntekijä ja vanhusasiakas asemoituvat keskustellessaan asumisesta.
