Aaptamine Derivatives from the Indonesian Sponge Aaptos suberitoides

2013

Four new aaptamine derivatives (1-4) along with aaptamine (5) and three related compounds (6-8) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the sponge Aaptos suberitoides collected in Indonesia. The structures of the new compounds were unambiguously determined by one- and two-dimensional NMR and by HRESIMS measurements. Compounds 3, 5, and 6 showed cytotoxic activity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y cell line, with IC(50) values ranging from 0.9 to 8.3 μM.

Diversity and distribution of feather lice on Greater Flamingoes (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus) in the Camargue, southern France

2002

Feather lice were collected from 2S0 chicks of the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus Pallas) captured alive in the Camargue, southern France, in July 1997. Five louse species were identified: Colpocephalum heterosoma Piaget, Colpocephalum salimalii Clay and Trinoton femoratum Piaget of the family Menoponidae; Anaticola phoenicopteri (Coinde) and Anatoecus pygaspis (Nitzsch [in Giebel]) of the family Philopteridae. Our collecting results also show that there is body-site segregation among the several louse species inhabiting the same host individual.

Sex- and age-related variation in survival and cost of first reproduction in Greater Flamingos

2001

International audience; We analyzed survival of breeding Greater Flamingos, Phoenicopterus ruber roseus, using the capture histories of 2000 breeding birds ringed as chicks and resighted at their natal colony in the Camargue, southern France. As found in previous analyses, recapture probability varied according to year, sex, and age of the bird, and annual survival was strongly affected by winter severity. However, by using a much larger data set than in earlier analyses, we detected previously nonsignificant effects. Indeed, for the first time, sex and age of the bird were found to influence annual survival probability. We tested the hypothesis that the observed sex-related difference in s…

Molecular phylogeny of the freshwater sponges in Lake Baikal

2003

The phylogenetic relationship of the freshwater sponges (Porifera) in Lake Baikal is not well understood. A polyphyletic and/or monophyletic origin have been proposed. The (endemic) Baikalian sponges have been subdivided into two families: endemic Lubomirskiidae and cosmopolitan Spongillidae. In the present study, two new approaches have been made to resolve the phylogenetic relationship of Baikalian sponges; analysis of (1) nucleotide sequences from one mitochondrial gene, the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and of (2) one selected intron from the tubulin gene. Specimens from the following endemic Baikalian sponge species have been studied; Lubomirskia baicalensis, Baikalospongia interm…

Heavy-tail properties of relaxation time distributions underlying the Havriliak–Negami and the Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts relaxation patterns

2007

Abstract A detailed discussion of asymptotic properties of the Havriliak–Negami and the Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts relaxation time distributions is presented. The heavy-tail property of the Havriliak–Negami relaxation time distribution, leading to the infinite mean relaxation time, is discussed. In contrast, the existence of the finite mean relaxation time for the Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts response is shown. The discussion of the Cole–Davidson and the Cole–Cole cases is also included. Using the Tauberian theorems we show that these properties are determined directly by the asymptotic behavior of the considered empirical functions.

Pseudorapidity Density of Charged Particles inp+PbCollisions atsNN=5.02  TeV

2013

The charged-particle pseudorapidity density measured over four units of pseudorapidity in nonsingle-diffractive p + Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV is presented. The average value at midrapidity is measured to be 16.81 +/- 0.71 (syst), which corresponds to 2.14 +/- 0.17 (syst) per participating nucleon, calculated with the Glauber model. This is 16% lower than in nonsingle-diffractive pp collisions interpolated to the same collision energy and 84% higher than in d + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 0.2 TeV. The measured pseudorapidity density in p + Pb collisions is compared to model predictions and provides new constraints on the description of …

Shadowing in Inelastic Nucleon-Nucleon Cross Section?

2020

Experimental results of inclusive hard-process cross sections in heavy-ion collisions conventionally lean on a normalization computed from Glauber models where the inelastic nucleon-nucleon cross section $\sigma_{\rm nn}^{\rm inel}$ -- a crucial input parameter -- is simply taken from proton-proton measurements. In this letter, using the computed electro-weak boson production cross sections in lead-lead collisions as a benchmark, we determine $\sigma_{\rm nn}^{\rm inel}$ from the recent ATLAS data. We find a significantly suppressed $\sigma_{\rm nn}^{\rm inel}$ relative to what is usually assumed, show the consequences for the centrality dependence of the cross sections, and address the phe…
