The diatoms are unicellular algae of great interest in paleontology, aquatic ecology, and forensic medicine, among others. Currently, there are more than 100 000 known species distributed in aquatic ecosystems. For that reason, there is a big interest in the automatic classification of diatom images, however, the preliminary process applied to isolate the diatom from the background is a complex task. Stabilization and lx -gain analysis of switched positive systems with actuator saturation

This paper is concerned with the problems of stability and l 1 -gain analysis for a class of switched positive systems with time-varying delays and actuator saturation. Firstly, a convex hull representation is used to describe the saturation behavior. By constructing a multiple co-positive Lyapunov functional, sufficient conditions are provided for the closed-loop system to be locally asymptotically stable at the origin of the state space under arbitrary switching. Then, the l 1 -gain performance analysis in the presence of actuator saturation is developed. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

New faunal and floral records from Ocean Drilling Project Hole 963A, resolved at ?80-year spacing, provide evidence of suborbital scale climate variability in the central Mediterranean Sea throughout Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5. Cold events in the central Mediterranean Sea, indicated by low abundances of warm species and high abundances of cold species, are also evident in a planktonic foraminifera paleoclimatic curve. The effect of triple excitations in coupled cluster calculations of frequency-dependent polarizabilities

Abstract Frequency-dependent polarizabilities have been implemented within the CC3 model. Comparison with full configuration interaction results shows that the triple excitation effects included in CC3 lead to a significantly improved treatment for the dispersion of the polarizability of CH+. For the refractivity and polarizability anisotropy of N2, better agreement with experiment is found for the CC3 results than for those obtained with the coupled cluster singles and doubles model.

Abstract Full configuration-interaction calculations of the indirect spin–spin coupling constant of the BH molecule have been carried out in order to investigate the performance of various coupled-cluster (CC) methods in the treatment of electron-correlation effects, while the corresponding basis set convergence is analyzed in CC singles and doubles calculations. Assuming additivity of correlation and basis set effects, a theoretical estimate of 50.67 Hz is obtained for the 11 B 1 H spin–spin coupling constant.
Spin-orbit coupling constants from coupled-cluster response theory

A scheme for the calculation of spin-orbit coupling constants using coupled-cluster (CC) electronic structure methods is described based on response-theory expressions for transition properties. An implementation is reported for singlet–triplet transitions within the coupled-cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) approximation. An atomic mean-field representation of the spin-orbit interaction is used to simplify the calculation of spin-orbit coupling constants. The mechanical behavior of V-belt variators during the speed ratio shift is different from the steady operation as a gross radial motion of the belt is superimposed to the circumferential motion. The theoretical analysis involves equilibrium equations similar to the steady case, but requires a re-formulation of the mass conservation condition making use of the Reynolds transport theorem. The mathematical model of the belt-pulley coupling implies the repeated numerical solution of a strongly non-linear differential system.
