Disentangling size effects and spectral inhomogeneity in carbon nanodots by ultrafast dynamical hole-burning.

2018

Carbon nanodots (CDs) are a novel family of nanomaterials exhibiting unique optical properties. In particular, their bright and tunable fluorescence redefines the paradigm of carbon as a "black" material and is considered very appealing for many applications. While the field keeps growing, understanding CDs fundamental properties and relating them to their variable structures becomes more and more critical. Two crucial problems concern the effect of size on the electronic structure of CDs, and to what extent their optical properties are influenced by structural disorder. Furthermore, it remains largely unclear whether traditional concepts borrowed from the photo-physics of semiconductor qua…

Assessment of diaphragm and lung ultrasound interest as a diagnostic and monitoring tool in acute respiratory diseases by the physiotherapist in crit…

2021

Thoracic ultrasound is a non-invasive, ionization-free and easily available tool at the bedside of the critical care patient. The aim of this thesis is to assess the lung and diaphragm ultrasound interest in the diagnosis and monitoring of the acute pulmonary disorders by the critical care physiotherapist. Our narrative review showed a high diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound to diagnose acute pulmonary disorders commonly encountered by the physiotherapist. The review of the lung ultrasound semiology allowed us to propose a chest physiotherapy strategy depending the ultrasound findings in the patients. Our multicenter clinical trial enrolled 151 ICU patients and highlighted the high impac…

Design of a Battery/Ultracapacitor Energy Storage System for Electric Vehicle Applications

2018

The battery/ultracapacitors (UCs) integration is able to provide notable advantages in the power management of an electric vehicle (EV), in terms of capability of both high energy storage and readiness to deal with fast load variations. In order to manage the charge (or discharge) of the UCs from (or towards) a DC voltage bus, a proper bi-directional converter is required. In this paper, a bi-directional DC-DC converter in connection with a stack of UCs is described and some power simulation results are provided. The proposed converter is a B2R (buck-boost regulator) type. The load is represented by a 40kW peak power, kept for a time window of 3s, as required by the Worldwide harmonized Lig…

An outline of shear-sense analysis in high-grade rocks

2006

Ductile shear zones are important in tectonic reconstructions as a source of information on the relative motion of large crustal blocks or plates in the geological past. Methods to interpret fabric in ductile shear zones were mostly developed for low grade rocks where overprinting relations are usually well preserved. However, high grade shear zones are common and dominate in many Precambrian terrains. High grade shear zones should be analysed in a different way from low grade zones. The plane on which shear sense markers should be observed, the vorticity profile plane, is more difficult to find than in low grade shear zones. The most reliable shear sense markers in high grade shear zones a…

Aircraft noise and premature birth

1978

Abstract Certain physiological effects suggest that there may be a relationship between premature birth and noise exposure. Vasoconstriction in the peripheric blood vessel system is one effect. Others would be augmentation of the adrenocorticotrophic hormone and a higher vegetative excitability during pregnancy. Animal experiments have demonstrated negative effects but there is little literature available as yet on the specific relationship between exposure to aircraft noise and negative effects on pregnancies. A study of this relationship was undertaken in an area near the airport at Dusseldorf, Germany. While no significant negative effects could be demonstrated, a tendency toward an incr…

P02.40: The influence of maternal age on the association of an isolated fetal intracardiac echogenic focus and fetal aneuploidy

2006

decided to follow up the pregnancy during two weeks and perform the cordocentesis in this time, karyotope was normal. At 26 weeks we found progressive changes in fetal anatomy: heart herniation became larger, left lobe of liver began to protruse, the absence of the sternum and cartilaginous parts of the ribs was confirmed. Patient was offered pregnancy termination because of the impossibility of surgical correction. Radiography, CT and morphology of abortus confirmed ultrasound diagnosis of isolated absence of the sternum and cartilaginous parts of the ribs.

Prenatal diagnosis of cerebral malformation with an uncertain prognosis: a study concerning couple's information and consequences on pregnancy.

2004

Abstract Fetal ultrasound (FU) is used during almost all pregnancies and makes a large contribution to the identification of fetal malformation. It is particularly difficult to announce a malformation, particularly those affecting the brain, because there are often doubts concerning both the diagnosis and the prognosis. Aim. – The aim of this study was to analyze how imaging for prenatal screening is organized and how couples are managed and supported. We concentrated on the procedures used to inform couples: content, method of delivery and consequences. Method. –: Study amongst large multidisciplinary centers in Paris and the Paris region, by semi-directed interviews using a questionnaire.…
