On statistical inference for the random set generated Cox process with set-marking.

Cox point process is a process class for hierarchical modelling of systems of non-interacting points in ℝd under environmental heterogeneity which is modelled through a random intensity function. In this work a class of Cox processes is suggested where the random intensity is generated by a random closed set. Such heterogeneity appears for example in forestry where silvicultural treatments like harvesting and site-preparation create geometrical patterns for tree density variation in two different phases. An approximation to maximum likelihood estimates in reduced models

SUMMARY An approximation to the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters in a model can be obtained from the corresponding estimates and information matrices in an extended model, i.e. a model with additional parameters. The approximation is close provided that the data are consistent with the first model. Applications are described to log linear models for discrete data, to models for multivariate normal distributions with special covariance matrices and to mixed discrete-continuous models.

On a rough perturbation of the Navier-Stokes system and its vorticity formulation

We introduce a rough perturbation of the Navier-Stokes system and justify its physical relevance from balance of momentum and conservation of circulation in the inviscid limit. We present a framework for a well-posedness analysis of the system. In particular, we define an intrinsic notion of solution based on ideas from the rough path theory and study the system in an equivalent vorticity formulation. In two space dimensions, we prove that well-posedness and enstrophy balance holds. Mediation analysis is used to assess the direct effect of an exposure on an outcome, and the indirect effect transmitted by a third intermediate variable. Longitudinal data are the most suited to address mediation, since they allow mediational effects to manifest over time. There exist several approaches to deal with longitudinal mediation analysis, and one of the most widely spread, especially in social and behavioural sciences, consists of using multilevel models. Scatter matrices generalize the covariance matrix and are useful in many multivariate data analysis methods, including well-known principal component analysis (PCA), which is based on the diagonalization of the covariance matrix. The mixing properties of the sampler depend strongly on the choice of tuning parameters, such as the temperature schedule and the proposal distribution used for local exploration. Nearly exact sample size calculation for powerful non-randomized tests for differences between binomial proportions

In the case of two independent samples, it turns out that among the procedures taken in consideration, BOSCHLOO'S technique of raising the nominal level in the standard conditional test as far as admissible performs best in terms of power against almost all alternatives. The computational burden entailed in exact sample size calculation is comparatively modest for both the uniformly most powerful unbiased randomized and the conservative non-randomized version of the exact Fisher-type test. The “ThreePlusOne” Likelihood-Based Test Statistics: Unified Geometrical and Graphical Interpretations

The presentation of the well known Likelihood Ratio, Wald and Score test statistics in textbooks appears to lack a unified graphical and geometrical interpretation. We present two simple graphical representations on a common scale for these three test statistics, and also the recently proposed Gradient test statistic. These unified graphical displays may favour better understanding of the geometrical meaning of the likelihood based statistics and provide useful insights into their connections.
