Robustness of PET Radiomics Features: Impact of Co-Registration with MRI

2021

Radiomics holds great promise in the field of cancer management. However, the clinical application of radiomics has been hampered by uncertainty about the robustness of the features extracted from the images. Previous studies have reported that radiomics features are sensitive to changes in voxel size resampling and interpolation, image perturbation, or slice thickness. This study aims to observe the variability of positron emission tomography (PET) radiomics features under the impact of co-registration with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using the difference percentage coefficient, and the Spearman’s correlation coefficient for three groups of images: (i) original PET, (ii) PET after co-…

Collaborative Musical Creativity between Students and Adults: The Sonorous Paella

2021

While creativity is a key element of contemporary curriculum frameworks around the world, it is still insufficiently fostered in formal education settings. This study analyzes a project for collaborative musical creativity, entitled The Sonorous Paella. Participants (N = 12) were eight Year 4 secondary students, two professional musicians, an artist-in-residence, and a music teacher. Drawing on a graphic musical score, the participants worked together for 1.5 months to produce a group composition and performance. They were provided with various sound producers (instruments, everyday objects, technological devices) and were encouraged to flexibly utilize the physical space to maximize collab…

Introspection and equilibrium selection in 2 2 matrix games

1994

Game theory lacks an explanation of how players' beliefs are formed and why they are in equilibrium. This is the reason why it has failed to make significant advances with the problem of equilibrium selection even for quite siniple games, as 2x2 games with two strict Nash equilibria. Our paper models the introspection process by which the selected equilibrium is achieved in this class of games. Players begin their analysis with imprecise priors, obtained under weak restrictions formulated as Axioms. For a large class of reasoning dynamics we obtain as the solution the risk dominant Nash equilibrium.

An overview of semi-infinite programming theory and related topics through a generalization of the alternative theorems

1984

We propose new alternative theorems for convex infinite systems which constitute the generalization of the corresponding toGale, Farkas, Gordan andMotzkin. By means of these powerful results we establish new approaches to the Theory of Infinite Linear Inequality Systems, Perfect Duality, Semi-infinite Games and Optimality Theory for non-differentiable convex Semi-Infinite Programming Problem.

Pricing of digital services as an effectual co-creative process

2022

Entrepreneurs have to price their innovations under the unpredictability of customers’ reactions. While predictive pricing methods are prevalent in business-to-business pricing literature, we argue for the critical importance of control-oriented pricing strategies for digital services. By applying effectuation theory, our study investigates how entrepreneurs co-create their pricing strategies for their digital services as a co-evolutionary, iterative process with their customers. We found that pricing is the co-evolutionary process where entrepreneurs learn from their interactions with customers and use this knowledge to develop and improve their pricing practices further. The findings cont…

Testing experimental designs in liquid chromatography (II): Influence of the design geometry on the prediction performance of retention models.

2021

Abstract In liquid chromatography, the reliability of predictions carried out with retention models depends critically on the quality of the training experimental design. The search of the best design is more complex when gradient runs are used instead of isocratic experiments. In Part I of this work (JCA 1624 (2020) 461180), a general methodology based on the error propagation theory was developed and validated for assessing the quality of training designs involving gradients. The treatment relates the mathematical properties of a retention model with the geometry of the training designs and their subsequent predictions. In that work, only five usual designs were considered. Part II invest…

In this doctoral thesis, presented as a compendium of articles, various mathematical tools are developed to process signals from real problems. These techniques are based on Harten's multi-resolution framework and subd…

High-accuracy approximation of piecewise smooth functions using the Truncation and Encode approach

2017

Abstract In the present work, we analyze a technique designed by Geraci et al. in [1,11] named the Truncate and Encode (TE) strategy. It was presented as a non-intrusive method for steady and non-steady Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in Uncertainty Quantification (UQ), and as a weakly intrusive method in the unsteady case. We analyze the TE algorithm applied to the approximation of functions, and in particular its performance for piecewise smooth functions. We carry out some numerical experiments, comparing the performance of the algorithm when using different linear and non-linear interpolation techniques and provide some recommendations that we find useful in order to achieve a hig…

Cruise passengers' experiences in a Mediterranean port of call. The case study of Valencia

2014

Most cruise tourism studies have been restricted to one geographical region, the Caribbean, to a single cruise line, and to onboard experiences. Despite their relevance there has been little research on the Mediterranean region, on specific ports of call and on off-board experience. Furthermore, in the cruise context, there have been no studies on the role of culture in consumer behavior. Hoping to help fill this void, this research analyzed the influence of cruise passengers' image of a Mediterranean port of call on visit satisfaction and future behavioral intentions, and the moderating role of culture in causal relationships among these constructs. Data were collected in the port of Valen…
