Molecular Docking approach on the Topoisomerase I inhibitors series included in the NCI anti-cancer agents mechanism database

2006

Topoisomerase I (Top1) is an essential enzyme participating to all those processes associated with separation of DNA strands. It manages superhelical tensions through the transient breakage of one strand of duplex DNA, followed by the unwinding of supercoiled DNA. Camptothecins, a class of alkaloids extracted from the wood of a Chinese tree, were found to be potent inhibitors of Topoisomerase I. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Anti-cancer Agents Mechanism Database contains several camptothecins derivatives, classified as selective Top1 inhibitors. In this work we performed molecular docking studies on 24 camptothecin-like inhibitors present in this database (using Autodock 3.0.5). In or…

Experiences from a wearable-mobile acquisition system for ambulatory assessment of diet and activity

2017

Public health trends are currently monitored and diagnosed based on large studies that often rely on pen-and-paper data methods that tend to require a large collection campaign. With the pervasiveness of smart-phones and -watches throughout the general population, we argue in this paper that such devices and their built-in sensors can be used to capture such data more accurately with less of an effort. We present a system that targets a pan-European and harmonised architecture, using smartphones and wrist-worn activity loggers to enable the collection of data to estimate sedentary behavior and physical activity, plus the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. We report on a unified pilot…

Wordarrows: El poder representativo del lenguaje en la obra de no ficción de N. Scott Momaday

2012

This article focuses on two non-fiction works by Native American author N. Scott Momaday: his 1969 historical memoir The Way to Rainy Mountain and his essay collection The Man Made of Words. It specifically tackles performative conceptions of language in the Kiowa storytelling tradition, where words are experienced as speech acts that have the power to intervene in surrounding realities. Taking into account 20th century ethno-cultural and linguistic policies in the United States, the article also reflects on the role indigenous languages may play in contemporary Native American Literature, which has most often been written in English.

Posttransplant Management of Recipients Undergoing Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma. Working Group Report From the ILTS Transplant …

2020

Although liver transplantation (LT) is the best treatment for patients with localized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), recurrence occurs in 6%-18% of patients. Several factors, particularly morphological criteria combined with dynamic parameters, known before LT modify this risk and combined in prediction models may be used to stratify patients at need of variable surveillance strategies. Additional variables though likely explain differences in recurrence rates in patients with the same pre-LT HCC status. One of these variables is possibly immunosuppression (IS). Once recurrence takes place, management is highly heterogenous. Within the International Liver Transplantation Society Consensus …
