Teatro Bene Comune: Gedanken zum italienischen Theaterfrühling
2019
This contribution describes and reevaluates the Occupied Theatre Movements in Italy (2010-2017) from a marxist and post-structuralist perspective. It situates the theatre occupations in Italy in a broader genealogy of social movements and gives a phenomenological analysis of the specific forms of community-building that caracterize contemporary critique from the Left.
Il movimento dell'esistere tra comunicazione e riconoscimento
2021
The article develops some reflections on communication and intersubjective recognition. In particular, crossing the reflections of Mounier and Habermas, he dwells on the dialectic between identity and difference as a central dynamic of the anthropological structure. Communication is an element that pervades human existence; through it images of the world are constructed and practical modalities are activated. The human being experiences and understands reality through communicative interaction. It is an original act of existence, the means to build humanized societies through the grammar of recognizing the other
Carceral Aesthetics. Art and Everyday Life in Prison
2021
The paper aims to focus on everyday life in prison following a double perspective, a historical and a contemporary one. First, the historical phenomenon of prison graffiti will be investigated in connection with one case study: the graffiti in the prisons of the Holy Office in Palermo. Subsequently, the effect of making art in today’s prisons both on space and on inmate life will be taken into account. The overall aim of this twofold reading is to show to what extent making art in prison can be seen as a strategy of activation of those relational and familiarizing processes which bestow an aesthetic value on everyday life.

Comunità
2022
This volume questions the community both as an increasingly emerging educational need in the post-modern societies, and as a human and universal vocation. To clarify the current oblivion of the sense of a community ethic, that especially distinguishes the new generations, educational practices and pedagogical theories are reconstructed that, throughout history, have favored a community tone. Finally, the gaze is turned to those educational challenges that today it is not possible to ignore in view of the formation of a community citizenship: individualism, materialism, virtual realities, multiculturalism. These are some tendencies that orient young people towards lonely lifestyles and that …
Community Development and Social Participation
2011
The paper presents the reslt of the action research project issued in Palermo (Southern Italy), in disadvantaged urban suburbs, methodologically based on Kurt Lewin's field theory - that is a three-step spiral process of planning which involves recoinnaissance; talking actions; and fact-finding about the results of the action - in order to develop the social participation and the social change. The principal aim of the project was the empowerment of participants, obtaining their collaboration through participation, giving them acquisition of knowledge for a real social change.

The “Visiting in italy” project: origins, organisation and prospects
2017
Visiting has its theoretical roots in the research of Lewin, and began in England in the early 2000s when the Community of Communities network, led by Rex Haigh, introduced this project structured on both peer- and self-review for monitoring the quality of treatment settings (for adults, minors, prisoners, etc.) and earning accreditation and financing from the National Health Service. The Italian Visiting project, which Mito&Realtà designed, proposed and formally introduced in 2010, has the aim of encouraging communities to get to know each other through a process of assessing therapeutic and structural factors for the purpose of better identifying TCs’ weaknesses and strengths and encourag…
How Can We Improve the Vaccination Response in Older People? Part II: Targeting Immunosenescence of Adaptive Immunity Cells.
2022
The number of people that are 65 years old or older has been increasing due to the improvement in medicine and public health. However, this trend is not accompanied by an increase in quality of life, and this population is vulnerable to most illnesses, especially to infectious diseases. Vaccination is the best strategy to prevent this fact, but older people present a less efficient response, as their immune system is weaker due mainly to a phenomenon known as immunosenescence. The adaptive immune system is constituted by two types of lymphocytes, T and B cells, and the function and fitness of these cell populations are affected during ageing. Here, we review the impact of ageing on T and B …
Immunity and Aging
2016
In the elderly, many alterations of innate and acquired immunity have been described and viewed as deleterious, hence the term immunosenescence. Immunosenescence is a complex process involving multiple reorganizational and developmentally regulated changes, rather than simple unidirectional decline of complete immune function. On the other hand, some immunological parameters are commonly notably reduced in the elderly, and reciprocally good function is tightly correlated to health status. Whereas innate immunity is relatively well preserved in elderly, acquired immunity is more susceptible due to both the functional decline associated with the passage of time, and to antigen burden to which…
