Familien og felleskapets betydning i skoleelevenes selvpresentasjoner

2017

ABSTRACT English title: The Importance of Family and Community in St…

Humoral response of roach (Rutilus rutilus) to digenean Rhipidocotyle fennica infection

1997

The humoral immune response of roach (Rutilus rutilus) to cercariae of the digenean trematode, Rhipidocotyle fennica, was studied. Antibodies against R. fennica were found in wild roach in lakes where fish are infected by the parasite. Antibody levels were higher in sera collected in September than in sera collected in June, due to infection of R. fennica during the late summer. In experimental aquarium studies, roach immunized with homogenized cercariae produced antibodies against R. fennica. An especially strong response was elicited by infecting fish with living cercariae emerging from infected clams. The specificity of the antibodies, as shown in Western blots, was different between fis…

An Image Segmentation Algorithm based on Community Detection

2016

International audience; With the recent advances in complex networks, image segmentation becomes one of the most appropriate application areas. In this context, we propose in this paper a new perspective of image segmentation by applying two efficient community detection algorithms. By considering regions as communities, these methods can give an over-segmented image that has many small regions. So, the proposed algorithms are improved to automatically merge those neighboring regions agglomerative to achieve the highest modularity/stability. To produce sizable regions and detect homogeneous communities, we use the combination of a feature based on the Histogram of Oriented Gradients of the …

Overlapping community detection versus ground-truth in AMAZON co-purchasing network

2015

International audience; Objective evaluation of community detection algorithms is a strategic issue. Indeed, we need to verify that the communities identified are actually the good ones. Moreover, it is necessary to compare results between two distinct algorithms to determine which is most effective. Classically, validations rely on clustering comparison measures or on quality metrics. Although, various traditional performance measures are used extensively. It appears very clearly that they cannot distinguish community structures with different topological properties. It is therefore necessary to propose an alternative methodology more sensitive to the community structure variations in orde…

User and group networks on YouTube: A comparative analysis

2015

International audience; YouTube is the largest video-sharing social network where users (aka channels) can create links to any other users. Moreover, initially, users were allowed to create and join special groups of interest. Therefore, two types of online social networks can be defined. First, a user network where the nodes represent the users and the edges represent the social ties (friendship) between users. Second, a group network where the nodes represent the groups and the edges represent the social ties between groups, due to shared users. As the group network can be apprehended as the ground-truth overlapping community graph (where the nodes are the discovered communities and the l…

The immune role of the arthropod exoskeleton.

2012

7 pages; International audience; The exoskeleton or cuticle of arthropods is an important feature that contributes to their great success in colonising numerous habitats on earth. It has numerous functions among which to provide protection against parasites. Whereas often regarded as a simple physical barrier to the outside world, the immune protection of the cuticle is slightly more complex than that. Here, we provide an overview of the cuticle defensive traits against parasites and examine their variation as a response to parasitism. It appears that the cuticle is an efficient line of defense, which includes physical, biochemical and physiological defensive components that are potentially…

The presence of conifer resin decreases the use of the immune system in wood ants.

2008

5 pages; International audience; 1. Wood ants ( Formica paralugubris ) incorporate large amounts of solidified conifer resin into their nest, which reduces the density of many bacteria and fungi and protects the ants against some detrimental micro-organisms. By inducing an environment unfavourable to pathogens, the presence of resin may allow workers to reduce the use of their immune system. 2. The present study tested the hypothesis that the presence of resin decreases the immune activity of wood ants. Specifically, three components of the humoral immune defences of workers kept in resin-rich and resin-free experimental nests (antibacterial, lytic, and prophenoloxidase activities) were com…
