Teaching ultrasound (US) has not been sufficiently standardised yet. Most educational devices in US consist of 2-dimensional B-mode images. However, the identification of anatomic structures in the 3-dimensional space can only be learned by practical hands-on education. In US simulators, US images of real pathologies are created by the examination of a dummy with a mock transducer. Reports on hospital fire disasters are only rarely published in medical journals, and then only in journals dealing with fire fighting or hospital management. Blumenhagen found only two English language articles published between 1977 and 1987, according to which 24 500 severe events were registered in the USA, equalling three events per institution per year. However, only 30–40% of these events were reported to the fire department. In the USA only 11% of all registered events caused damage amounting to more than US$ 1 000 000.
Fusarium species recovered from the water distribution system of a French university hospital

Abstract Dijon Hospital is a French tertiary care institution undergoing major renovation, and different microbiological controls revealed the presence of Fusarium spp. in the water distribution system. Because some Fusarium spp. can cause life-threatening opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients, an 8-month survey was conducted in two hospital sites in order to evaluate the prevalence of the fungi in the water system.
