Reasons for the exclusive formation of heterodimeric capsules between tetra-tolyl and tetra-tosylurea calix[4]arenes
2007
The selective heterodimerization of tetra-tolyl (1a) and tetra-tosylurea (1b) calixarenes, serendipitously found by Rebek et al. (R. K. Castellano, B. H. Kim and J. Rebek, Jr., J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1997, 119, 12671–12672), has been used for the construction of highly sophisticated macrocycles and well-defined supramolecular assemblies. Regrettably, hitherto, neither the exact structure of these heterodimers nor the reason for their exclusive formation is known. We present molecular dynamics simulations using the AMBER force field in explicit chloroform solvent for the two homodimers, the heterodimer and the two uncomplexed tetra-urea calixarenes. The rigid rotation about the C–S–N–C bond of t…
Molecules with New Topologies Derived from Hydrogen-Bonded Dimers of Tetraurea Calix[4]arenes
2008
Tetraurea calix[4]arenes 2 have been synthesized in which two adjacent aryl urea residues are connected to a loop by an aliphatic chain -O-(CH(2))(n)-O-. The remaining urea residues have a bulky 3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl residue and an omega-alkenyloxyphenyl residue. Since this bulky residue cannot pass through the loop, only one homodimer (22) is formed in apolar solvents, for steric reasons, in which the two alkenyl residues penetrate the two macrocyclic loops. Covalent connection of these alkenyl groups by olefin metathesis followed by hydrogenation creates compounds 3, which consist of molecules with hitherto unknown topology. Their molecular structure was confirmed by (1)H NMR spectrosco…
Isolation and characterisation of an isoproturon-mineralisingMethylopilasp. TES from French agricultural soil
2004
Using enrichment culture three isoproturon (IPU) mineralising bacterial isolates were isolated from a French agricultural soil mineralising up to 50% of the initially added 14C-ring labelled IPU within only eight days. These isolates showed similar metabolic (BIOLOG GN) and amplified rDNA restriction (ARDRA) profiles. Partial 16S rDNA sequencing revealed that they were identical and identified as Methylopila sp TES. This strain harbours a large plasmid (220 kb) putatively bearing essential IPU-degrading genes as demonstrated by a curing experiment. Methylopila sp. TES transformed IPU and its known metabolites to CO2 and biomass but did not degrade chlorotoluron, monolinuron, diuron and linu…
Enantioselective Mannich reaction of β-keto esters with aromatic and aliphatic imines using a cooperatively assisted bifunctional catalyst
2014
An efficient urea-enhanced thiourea catalyst enables the enantioselective Mannich reaction between β-keto esters and N-Boc-protected imines under mild conditions and minimal catalyst loading (1–3 mol %). Aliphatic and aromatic substituents are tolerated on both reaction partners, affording the products in good enantiomeric purity. The corresponding β-amino ketones can readily be accessed via decarboxylation without loss of enantiomeric purity.
Stereoselective Synthesis and Cytoselective Toxicity of Monoterpene-Fused 2-Imino-1,3-thiazines
2014
Starting from pinane-, apopinane- and carane-based 1,3-amino alcohols obtained from monoterpene-based β-amino acids, a library of monoterpene-fused 2-imino-1,3-thiazines as main products and 2-thioxo-1,3-oxazines as side-products were prepared via two- or three-step syntheses. When thiourea adducts prepared from 1,3-amino alcohols and aryl isothiocyanates were reacted with CDI under mild conditions, O-imidazolylcarbonyl intermediates were isolated which could be transformed to the desired 1,3-thiazines under microwave conditions. 1,3-Thiazines and 2-thioxo-1,3-oxazine side-products could also be prepared in one-step reactions through the application of CDI and microwave irradiation. The rin…
Effect of Hydrogen and Carbamide Peroxide in Bleaching, Enamel Morphology, and Mineral Composition: In vitro Study
2017
ABSTRACT Aim The aim of the study was to evaluate the bleaching effect, morphological changes, and variations in calcium (Ca) and phosphate (P) in the enamel with hydrogen peroxide (HP) and carbamide peroxide (CP) after the use of different application regimens. Materials and methods Four groups of five teeth were randomly assigned, according to the treatment protocol: HP 37.5% applied for 30 or 60 minutes (HP30, HP60), CP 16% applied for 14 or 28 hours (CP14, CP28). Changes in dental color were evaluated, according to the following formula: ΔE = [(La−Lb)2+(aa−ab)2 + (ba−bb)2]½. Enamel morphology and Ca and P compositions were evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscope and environmenta…
Evaluation of Triflumuron, a benzoylphenylurea derivative, onTenebrio molitorpupae (Col., Tenebrionidae): effects on cuticle
1996
Triflumuron (TFM), a benzoylphenylurea (BPU) derivative, exhibited insecticidal activity when injected to newly ecdysed pupae of Tenebrio molitor. Mortality occurs by defect in adult ecdysis. Treatment resulted in a significant increase in the duration of pupal stage and caused a reduction in both cuticle thickness and incorporation of ''C-labelled precursor into chitin compared to controls. Moreover, TFM reduced the amount of cuticle chitin without any significant effect on protein level. Thus, TFM acts by preventing the chitin biosynthesis confirming the primary mode of action of the BPU insecticides.

Nonporous, Strong, Stretchable, and Transparent Electrospun Aromatic Polyurea Nanocomposites as Potential Anticorrosion Coating Films
2021
This study, for the first time, focused on the fabrication of nonporous polyurea thin films (~200 microns) using the electrospinning method as a novel approach for coating applications. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrophilic-fumed nanosilica (HFNS) were added separately into electrospun polyurea films as nano-reinforcing fillers for the enhancement of properties. Neat polyurea films demonstrated a tensile strength of 14 MPa with an elongation of 360%. At a loading of 0.2% of MWCNTs, the highest tensile strength of 21 MPa and elongation of 402% were obtained, while the water contact angle remained almost unchanged (89°). Surface morphology analysis indicated that the producti…
Influence of cerium content and heat treatment on Ce:YAG@glass wool nanostructures
2019
The paper reports the influence of cerium content and heat treatment on composition, structural features and optical properties of nanostructures constituted by a layer of Ce:YAG nanoparticles on glass wool (Ce:YAG@GW). The Ce:YAG@GW nanostructures were obtained embedding the glass wool (GW) in a gel-like precursor and calcining at 800 and 900 °C. Gel-like precursor of urea glass route (UGR) method has been used to prepare both nanostructures and Ce:YAG nanoparticles prepared as references. Structural properties were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). Results showed that the composition of the final products strongly depends both on the cerium cont…
