Techniques for uretero-intestinal reimplantation.
2004
Purpose of review Uretero-intestinal reimplantation is a crucial component of urinary diversion. Several techniques for refluxing and nonrefluxing uretero-intestinal reimplantation have been established and modified to minimize anastomotic complications and preserve renal function. We review current experience with uretero-intestinal reimplantation in different types of urinary diversion. Recent findings The basic principles of uretero-intestinal reimplantation are still controversially discussed. Several studies have focused on complications of urinary reflux from direct end-to-side or end-to-end anastomosis, such as pyelonephritis and calculus formation. Strictures at the anastomotic site…
Idiopathic Retroperitoneal Fibrosis: What Is the Optimal Clinical Approach for Long-Term Preservation of Renal Function?
2022
<b><i>Background:</i></b> The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effects of ureteral stenting and the exact timing of stent removal in favor of surgery in patients with idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF). <b><i>Summary:</i></b> Medline research terms of “idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis” AND “ medical therapy” OR “ureteral stenting” OR “surgical treatment” were done. Systematic reviews and observational and clinical studies were analyzed to obtain indication regarding the objective of the study for a narrative review. Ninety-two papers were analyzed. The treatment of IRF includes the monitoring of retroperitoneal fibr…

Hospitālas urrīnceļu infekcijas profilakse un ārstēšana pie mazinvazīvas uroloģiskas iejaukšanās
2015
Correction of vesicoureteral reflux: where do we stand?
2004
Purpose of review Newer techniques of molecular biology allow us to gain a better understanding of the molecular mechanism of primary urinary reflux. In recent years, diagnostic tools and treatment options for vesicoureteric reflux have dramatically changed. In this review, we want to focus on genetics, molecular biology, histology, clinical findings, diagnostic tools and newer surgical techniques for the treatment of vesicoureteric reflux published between 2003 and March 2004. Recent findings Recent findings have demonstrated that the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system does not seem to be responsible for the development of primary vesicoureteric reflux. Echo-enhanced ultrasound with cont…

Antibodies to cell surface ganglioside GD3 perturb inductive epithelial-mesenchymal interactions
1988
Abstract Most epithelial sheets emerge during embryogenesis by a branching and growth of the epithelium. The surrounding mesenchyme is crucial for this process. We report that branching morphogenesis and the formation of a new epithelium from the mesenchyme in the embryonic kidney can be blocked by a monoclonal antibody reacting with a surface glycolipid, disialoganglioside G D3 . In contrast, a more than 10-fold excess of antibodies to adhesive glycoproteins (N-CAM, L -CAM, fibronectin) fails to inhibit morphogenesis. Although the anti-G D3 antibody affected epithelial development, the disialoganglioside G D3 was expressed not in the epithelium, but in the mesenchyme surrounding the develo…
Towards data-driven medical imaging using natural language processing in patients with suspected urolithiasis.
2020
Abstract Objective The majority of radiological reports are still written as free text and lack structure. Further evaluation of free-text reports is difficult to achieve without a great deal of manual effort, and is not possible in everyday clinical practice. This study aims to automatically capture clinical information and positive hit rates from narrative radiological reports of suspected urolithiasis using natural language processing (NLP). Methods Narrative reports of low dose computed tomography (CT) of the retroperitoneum from April 2016 to July 2018 (n = 1714) were analyzed using NLP. These free-text reports were automatically structured based on RadLex concepts. Manual feedback was…
Bladder augmentation and urinary diversion in patients with neurogenic bladder: Non-surgical considerations
2011
Segments from almost all parts of the bowel have been used for urinary diversion. As a result, the available absorptive surface area of the bowel is reduced, and the incorporation of bowel segments into the urinary tract may have metabolic consequences. This is an area somewhat neglected in the literature. Metabolic complications are rare, but sub-clinical metabolic disturbances are quite common. Several studies have demonstrated that some of the absorbent and secreting properties of the bowel tissue are preserved after incorporation into the urinary tract. Hyperchloraemic metabolic acidosis can occur if ileal and/or colon segments are used, as well as malabsorption of vitamin B(12) and bil…
