Implementing Quiz Apps as Game-Based Learning Tools in Higher Education for the Enhancement of Learning Motivation

2021

Technology has brought changes in many fields, including education. An increasingly important role in the pedagogical process is played by technology-enhanced learning and the use of technology in the learning process to make it more exciting, interesting, and motivating for students. Game-based learning is an essential part of technology-enhanced learning, and it has the potential to engage and motivate students. Although knowledge tests often have negative associations related to stress and assessment, game-based learning tools like quiz apps provide a safe environment for training and mistakes by integrating elements of games that make the learning process and knowledge assessment more i…

Exploration of Location-Based Services Adoption

2011

The purpose of this chapter is to explore aspects of user perceptions of their use of location-based services. As mobile technologies become more ubiquitous in the general population, it is reasonable to assume that individuals will consume services and software to enhance their aspirations and entertainment desires. This study begins by constructing a location-based service prototype simulation. It then conducts an experiment and analysis based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. A survey was developed to extract usage information from participants, followed by an analysis of the results using PLS. The analysis shows significant indicators that suggest …

Adoption and use of mobile technologies for learning among smallholder farmer communities in Uganda

2016

Mobile learning (mLeaming) in formal education is getting wide spread but little is known about how to adopt mLeaming in non-formal contexts among smallholder farmer communities, who constitute the majority in most African states. These rely on agriculture, yet their livelihoods are affected by immense changes in seasons. Smallholder farmers' access to mobile phones can act as bridges in supporting learning for secure livelihoods. Using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), we have conducted multiple case studies of the Community Knowledge Worker project in Uganda. The intention was to analyse mobile learning adoption and use practices among farmers. Based on our f…

Ensuring Sufficient Literacy Practice with Tablet Technology in Zambian Schools

2015

Tablets are a promising mobile device for disseminating e-Learning materials at schools in Africa. E-learning materials can be especially useful for the practice of early literacy skills. Introducing mobile devices to schools can be challenging as teachers are required to make changes to their daily routines and the use of technology can be problematic in overcrowded classrooms. This study aimed to find out the most optimal way of providing GraphoGame literacy intervention via tablets for grade one learners in an urban school environment. The study tested whether GraphoGame mounted on tablets increases initial literacy skills among grade one learners. Three different conditions for providin…
