BioImageXD: an open, general-purpose and high-throughput image-processing platform

2012

BioImageXD puts open-source computer science tools for three-dimensional visualization and analysis into the hands of all researchers, through a user-friendly graphical interface tuned to the needs of biologists. BioImageXD has no restrictive licenses or undisclosed algorithms and enables publication of precise, reproducible and modifiable workflows. It allows simple construction of processing pipelines and should enable biologists to perform challenging analyses of complex processes. We demonstrate its performance in a study of integrin clustering in response to selected inhibitors.

Lietotāju uztveres uzlabojumi saskarnēs atkarībā no to elementu izkārtojuma

2022

Maģistra darba tēma “Lietotāju uztveres uzlabojumi saskarnēs atkarībā no to elementu izkārtojuma”. 2022. gadā, pēc statistikas datiem, saskarnes var palielināt tīmekļvietnes reklāmieguvuma līmeni par 200%, bet saskarnes dizains līdz pat 400% [71], tādējādi lietotāju saskarnes uztvere ir svarīga pētījuma tēma. Maģistra darba mērķis ir izpētīt un izanalizēt, kurās saskarnēs elementu izkārtojums uzlabo lietotāju uztveri. Pētījuma rezultātā tika noskaidrots, ka lietotājam visvieglāk informāciju ir uztvert saskarnē Nr.1, savukārt visgrūtāk lietotājam informāciju uztvert ir saskarnē Nr.6, atkarībā no elementu izvietojuma, dizaina un skaita. Maģistra darbā izklāstīts 63 lappusēs, iekļauti 20 attēl…

Impacts of Touch Screen Size, User Interface Design, and Subtask Boundaries on In-Car Task's Visual Demand and Driver Distraction

2020

Visual distraction by secondary in-car tasks is a major contributing factor in traffic incidents. In-car user interface design may mitigate these negative effects but to accomplish this, design factors’ visual distraction potential should be better understood. The effects of touch screen size, user interface design, and subtask boundaries on in-car task's visual demand and visual distraction potential were studied in two driving simulator experiments with 48 participants. Multilevel modeling was utilized to control the visual demands of driving and individual differences on in-car glance durations. The 2.5” larger touch screen slightly decreased the in-car glance durations and had a diminis…

Towards essential visual variables in user interface design

2014

This paper focuses on visual variables in user interface design from the user perspective. Visual design of user interfaces is essential to users interacting with different software. The study is conducted with 3E-templates for users to express their impressions by writing and drawing regarding visual website design. The data is analyzed with qualitative content analysis through interpretation framework. The results of this study provide new insights into user-centered visual user interface design. The results indicate which are the most essential visual variables in user interface design and therefore should be emphasized in user-centered design that promotes positive UX and, thus, benefit…

Digital Mental Health Resources for Children and Youth : Evaluation of Strengths in User Interface Design

2019

The aim of this research is to explore the positive user interface (UI) design of digital mental health resources for children and youth. For this purpose, a heuristic model is introduced and heuristic evaluation is used as a method to systematically assess 49 digital mental health resources. In the assessment, the resources are evaluated by observing the prevalence of UI design strengths defined in the heuristic model. The results of the study indicate that the resources analyzed have strengths especially in the dimensions of visual design, content, reliability, engagement and functional design. Furthermore, all of the resources have at least four design strengths, creating a good basis fo…
