Diagnostic utility of new short versions of AUDIT to detect binge drinking in undergraduate students

ABSTRACT This study examines the usefulness of two AUDIT adaptations with a sample of 907 undergraduate alcohol users. On the one hand, it includes the AR2i that encompasses revised A2r and A3r consumption items, and on the other hand—in addition to the two former items—the inclusion of items 4, 8, and 9, which evaluate consequences. The results indicate that both adaptations identify BD more precisely than the traditional scales (AUDIT and AUDIT-C), but the usefulness of each will depend on the clinical purpose they are given. IP Flow Mobility (IFOM) enables a user equipment to offload data traffic at the IP flow level. Although the procedure of IFOM-based flow offloading has been specified by 3GPP, how many IP flows should be offloaded and when offloading should be performed are not defined. Object The authors report on their experience with a 3D virtual reality system for planning minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures. Methods Between October 2002 and April 2006, the authors used the Dextroscope (Volume Interactions, Ltd.) to plan neurosurgical procedures in 106 patients, including 100 with intracranial and 6 with spinal lesions. The planning was performed 1 to 3 days preoperatively, and in 12 cases, 3D prints of the planning procedure were taken into the operating room. Abstract The Injection Drug User Quality of life Scale (IDUQOL) measures the unique and individual circumstances that determine the quality of life of injection drug users. This paper reports the psychometric properties of the Spanish version, for drug dependent persons with or without injectable consumption using a revised instrument: Drug user Quality of Life Scale-Spanish (DUQOL-Spanish). We studied 169 outpatients in 9 Spanish drug treatment centers. Factor analysis, internal consistency, test–retest reliability and criterion-related validity were assessed. Effectance and control as determinants of video game enjoyment

This article explores video game enjoyment originated by games' key characteristic, interactivity. An online experiment (N = 500) tested experiences of effectance (perceived influence on the game world) and of being in control as mechanisms that link interactivity to enjoyment. A video game was manipulated to either allow normal play, reduce perceived effectance, or reduce perceived control. Enjoyment ratings suggest that effectance is an important factor in video game enjoyment but that the relationship between control of the game situation and enjoyment is more complex. © 2007 Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.

MAGIC-5: an Italian mammographic database of digitised images for research

The implementation of a database of digitised mammograms is discussed. The digitised images were collected beginning in 1999 by a community of physicists in collaboration with radiologists in several Italian hospitals as a first step in developing and implementing a computer-aided detection (CAD) system. All 3,369 mammograms were collected from 967 patients and classified according to lesion type and morphology, breast tissue and pathology type. A dedicated graphical user interface was developed to visualise and process mammograms to support the medical diagnosis directly on a high-resolution screen.
